Guess Washington is in better financial shape that I thought. Apparently they have about $36.5 mill in cap space. Only other team trying to sign Manning with anywhere near that is Seattle, which also has $36 mill in cap space.

EDIT - Denver has $43 mill in cap room according to reports. Bye bye "chosen one"?

Just saw the presser and it was gut wrenching. If there's another player in this league who'd pay genuine tribute to the fans the way Peyton did, I'd like to know his name. He's without question the most intelligent, hard working, prepared player in league history and will make a Great Head Coach one day.

He's currently in South Florida to talk to the Dolphins. BTW, he owns a home in the area. The Dolphins DESPARATELY need to erase "orange seat day" at Dolphin games and put this once proud franchise back on the NFL map...just sayin'.

Thankfully Peyton Manning is a pro. He knows how the NFL works as well as anyone and that nobody is bigger than the franchise. It was just bad luck with injuries that created this scenario. Had the Colts ended up with any pick other than #1 overall Peyton would be back as their starter for 2012. It's a tough break, but if the guy finds the right team to play for he might have a better shot at a 2nd ring elsewhere than he would in Indy anyway.

Marshall Faulk (who played with Peyton Manning and has remained friends with him) said today that there is no way Manning will play for an NFC team because he wouldn't want to potentially play against Eli in the playoffs unless it was in the Super Bowl. Faulk said if Manning talks to an NFC team it would only be as a bargaining tool. Faulk mentioned the Jets, Dolphins, and the other AFC South teams as potential landing spots for Manning.

Reggie Wayne’s hopeful of a Colts reunion in Miami

Reggie Wayne thinks ending his career with the Miami Dolphins, winning a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning as his quarterback, would be a “story book ending.”

That’s what the soon to be free agent told WQAM’s Michael Irvin show on Wednesday, just minutes before Manning got released by the Indianapolis Colts.

“You don’t think [Peyton Manning] wants to prove people wrong,” Wayne told WQAM. “You don’t think he wants to go out there and show everyone he’s back, and what he can do. This dude is going to be ready. Trust me, he’s going to be more than ready. And he’s not going to have a problem adjusting to nobodies scheme, and nobodies roster. He’s going to fit in just like he’s been there.”

Wayne, a former Hurricanes standout who is a South Florida resident in the offseason, is optimistic he can do the same thing if the Dolphins make an offer, putting the Manning’s old band back together in South Florida.

“My phone is working. It’s definitely working. I got all my bars. Whenever that phone rings, trust me, I’ll answer,” Wayne said about his desire to sign with the Dolphins.

It’s likely that Wayne’s camp will seek a contract comparable to the three-years, $15 million deal his former UM teammate, Santana Moss, got from the Washington Redskins last year.

“I can see it, and I’m definitely not opposed to it,” Wayne said about teaming up with Manning in Miami. “He’s a great worker. I consider myself a great worker, and when you put great workers together good things happen. Me being in his trail to Miami, I would definitely love it! I’m totally available. My phone is working…I’m ready for anything that comes! I definitely see that in the mix.”

This isn't tennis or basketball where you're nose to nose on the field of play. Both are QB's not even on the field at the same time. I'm thinking Peyton is just afraid of his younger beating him. It's already got to be embarrassing to have his younger, less talented brother with twice his rings and haven beaten his biggest rival Tom Brady more times in the playoffs. It sounds more like a pride thing than brotherly love. Just my take on it assuming this story is true.

Raiders Clear $11.82M In Cap Space By Restructuring Richard Seymour, Michael Huff Contracts

According to a league source, Seymour lowered his $7.5 million fully guaranteed base salary to the league minimum ($925,000) with the remaining $6.575 million converted to a guaranteed roster bonus that will be treated as a signing bonus for salary cap purposes.

Under the restructured contract, Huff's base salary base salary was reduced to $700,000, which is fully guaranteed, with the remaining $3.3 million combined with his $4 million roster bonus to create a guaranteed $7.3 million roster bonus that will be treated like a signing bonus for salary cap purposes.
