Gee... how horrible for Peyton. Now he'll be known as a great tipper! Hey, it beats having a nickname like Scottie "No Tippin" Pippen. Even worse Pippen still ended up bankrupt despite being known as a tightwad.

I think most average people not supporting an entire entourage wouldn't mind tipping that kind of money when they've got the bank account Manning does.

Chiefs Offered Manning a Contract already

Quote:
Report: Chiefs have already offered Peyton Manning a contract
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 9, 2012, 10:18 AM EST
Kansas City's Bowe makes a gain as Oakland's Tonga comes up short in Kansas City, Missouri Reuters

Amid talk that some NFL teams will court Peyton Manning so aggressively that they’re willing to sign him without watching him throw, now comes a radio report saying the Kansas City Chiefs have already offered Manning a contract.

Radio host Brandon Spano reports that the Chiefs were the first team to formally offer Manning a contract, making him the offer on Thursday, the day after his release from the Colts became official.

At the moment this is just one radio report that hasn’t been confirmed elsewhere, but it fits a growing narrative that the Chiefs’ interest is real. Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel went right up to the tampering line, and may have even crossed the line, by gushing about Manning even before the Colts released him, and the Chiefs reportedly contacted Manning shortly after it became permissible within league rules.

The Chiefs are an intriguing option. They weren’t far from the playoffs last year in the weak AFC West and have a good chance of being better this year, considering that arguably their two most talented players, Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry, played a combined total of three games last year. Manning would like to have a receiver like Dwayne Bowe, and the Chiefs are in relatively good salary cap shape, good enough that they should be able to give Manning a healthy contract and still have room to bolster the roster elsewhere as needed.

We don’t know for sure that the Chiefs have actually sent Manning a contract and are simply waiting on him to put pen to paper, but it certainly does sound like the Chiefs are one team that will aggressively pursue the biggest free agent of the year.
Manning visiting Broncos and Cardinals

Quote:
Manning will visit Cardinals, too
Posted by Mike Florio on March 9, 2012, 2:57 PM EST

Peyton Manning is making his first free-agent visit on Friday, spending time with the Broncos.

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen report that, before Manning returns to Miami, he’ll visit at least one other team.

The Cardinals.

It’s unknown at this point whether Manning will be throwing for the Broncos, the Cardinals, or any other team. With each passing day that he doesn’t, we become more curious as to whether he hopes to sign a new contract without having to do so.

In his only game at University of Phoenix Stadium, in 2009, Manning completed 24 of 35 passes for 379 yards, four touchdowns, one interception, and a passer rating of 130.5.

Giants released RB Brandon Jacobs.
The move ends the career Giant's seven-year tenure with the team. The sides couldn't agree to a restructured contract, and Jacobs was due an unmanageable $4.9 million in salary and bonuses. Turning 30 before the season and having averaged 3.76 yards per carry last year, Jacobs wasn't close to worth it. Perhaps the Giants would consider bringing back Jacobs at close to the veteran's minimum salary. Otherwise, there won't be a big market for his services.

I'm starting to wodner what Irsay is doing. Nobody can argue cutting Manning and drafting Luck is the right move. But he's cut or looking to trade like half Colts team. And most are the good players rather than the bad ones. Andrew Luck is really good but he's gonna get killed in the pocket and have nobody to throw the ball to if they keep this up.

It depends what kind of pick(s) they can get for Freeney. He can't have many good years left, and it's pretty clear the Colts are in rebuilding mode right now and trying to stockpile picks.

I really can't see the Colts getting a lot for Freeney. He's only got a year left on his contract and is due over $14 million. Freeney's nowhere near as dominant as he used to be and I can't imagine the Colts could get more than a third round pick for him.

I actually like what the Colts are doing though. They are going into a full rebuilding mode rather than keeping a lot of under performing, high paid guys. I would hope they'll take some of their savings and invest in offensive lineman so Luck doesn't get killed his rookie year and lose his confidence.

I think there's a team or two out there that would overpay for someone of Freeney's pedigree.

You'll be panicking when Manning doesn't sign with Miami.

Seriously. I'm starting to think those Mayflower trucks are going to start pulling up to Lucas Oil Stadium any day now to wisk away every trace of the Colts to LA.

As long as they don't have to play the Giants in Lambo I think they'll be ok

Every team could use a player like Freeney, but the $14 million salary is going to scare most teams off, especially a team that's nearly over the cap like the Packers.

I actually get the Colts wanting to ditch Freeney. He's still a terrific player but not worth his huge salary. It's all the other players the Colts are cutting that leave me scratching my head. I'm just not sure what Irsay's doing. A complete demolition of the team wasn't really necessary considering they aren't getting a "project QB" but rather a franchise QB on day 1. At the rate they're going the Colts with have a great QB with little talent around him and nobody to throw the ball to.

This really is the best way to rebuild a team when you're superstars get old and leave or retire. Too many times we hear about rebuilding mode yet these teams are still at the max of salary cap with nothing to show for it. This way they get the best they can in Andrew Luck, trade off some expensive players for more fresh talent, maybe spend a year or two at the bottom of the pack and then come back full force with a crapload of talent.

Exactly. Irsay knows what he's doing. How many teams have back to back HOF QB's?
