This is a huge risk for Washington, and I hope it works out for them. But talk about an all in bet.
Most of the mock drafts I'm seeing seem to think Cleveland takes Claiborne or Richardson at #4. I think Richardson would be a mistake. As I've said before, running backs are the most easily replaceable part in the NFL. I don't think it's a good idea to ever waste an early 1st round pick on one.

Some mock drafts are showing QB Tannehill still being there at #22 and going to Cleveland with that pick. I don't even think he's a first round talent to begin with, but with slim pickings at QB in this draft I'll bet someone reaches big time and takes Tannehill in the top-15. Though even Tannehill would probably be an improvement over Colt McCoy.

Well said, look at the last 5 years, with 7 RB taken in the early first round and only 1 star....

2006: #2 Reggie Bush, #21 Laurence Maroney.. Both Busts
2007: #7 Adrian Peterson.. Exception, he's awesome
2008: #4 Darren (made of glass) McFadden (Bust)
2009: #12 Knowshon Moreno (Bust)
2010: #9 C.J Spiller, #12 Ryan Mathews both Busts
2011: None taken in the early first round....

Vikings released OGs Steve Hutchinson and Anthony Herrera.
Hutchinson and Herrera have been the Vikings' starting guards since 2007, with Hutchinson starting 89 of a possible 96 games since being signed away from the Seahawks in 2006. Herrera signed as an undrafted free agent in 2004. Hutchinson was due $7 million going into his age-35 season, while Herrera was set to make $2.75 million between salary and bonuses. Hutchinson graded out as one of the league's best guards in 2011 by Pro Football Focus, and could be welcomed back at a lower salary depending on how his market unfolds.

One year that stands out for running back busts taken early is 2005. Granted, Ronnie Brown has been an ok RB and Cadillac Williams probably would have had a very good career had it not been for injuries.

#2 pick - Miami - Ronnie Brown
#4 pick - Chicago - Cedric Benson
#5 pick - Tampa Bay - Cadillac Williams

And remember who slid to #24 in that draft? That's right Aaron Rodgers. Of course Jacksonville picked crackhead Matt Jones over Rodgers at #21.

Ouch, we traded our first rounder #7 for Randy Moss, that sure worked out well

Actually Green Bay scored two big wins in that 2005 draft. They took Aaron Rodgers at #21 and also safety Nick Collins at #51. Collins flew under the radar since he played at small I-AA school Bethune-Cookman College, which is in my city.

Lot of disparity in what you get in the #2 pick, either a monster; Megatron, Suh, or just straight awful; Harrington, Charles Rodgers.

Here are the past NFL drafts where QB's were then both #1 and #2 overall. Notice that only one time (1971) did both QB's end up being quality NFL QB's. In 3 of the 4 cases one QB turned out to be very good and the other was a major bust.

1999:
1. Tim Couch - Bust
2. Donovan McNabb - Very solid career/Borderline HOF

1998:
1. Peyton Manning - All-Time Great
2. Ryan Leaf - One of the biggest busts ever

1993:
1. Drew Bledsoe - Very good QB/4x Pro-Bowler
2. Rick Mirer - Major bust

1971:
1. Jim Plunkett - Very good career/2x Super Bowl champ QB
2. Archie Manning - Solid NFL QB, unfortunately played for awful team

Yep... Way to much risk, but why would MS give a s* its only the fans money/time that'll get wasted.

I guess his legacy would be tainted big time if he failed, but who cares when you've won x2 super bowls and are sitting on 100+million.

91-115

That's Snyder's record as owner of the Redskins. Just 3 winning seasons in 13 years. Shanahan's record is pretty lousy to as a head coach in his post-Elway years with Denver and Washington. John Elway was probably the only reason this guy was ever recognized as a good head coach.

In what appears to be the most pointless, idiotic strike in sports history the Arena Football League players have gone on strike. Teams are going to be using replacement players. My guess is none of the fans will actually notice different players playing. Seriously, to go on strike you need, you know... actual leverage.

Arena football players strike, cut from teams

Bright House Sports Network confirms Arena Football League players decided to strike Friday at the opening season game in Orlando. But before the players could do that, the League cut the players from the teams expected to play.

The game between the Orlando Predators and the Pittsburgh power will go on tonight though -- with replacement players.

For months, players of the Arena Football League, including the Predators, have been fighting for changes to contracts, bigger salaries being one of the major sticking points.

The plan Friday was for the players from the Predators and the Power to practice, and then take a knee at gametime to show unity. That will not happen now. Marlon Moye-Moore, a linebacker and fullback with the Predators told BHSN's David Baumann that all of the players from both teams have been cut.
There has been speculation if the players decided to strike, they would lose their players benefits, including team housing. It's not known if this means these players will lose that.

“If they are going to make it ugly and evict them out of their apartment, these are their houses. There are state laws against that. Our guys will leave peacefully," said AFLPA Executive Director Ivan Soto.

Players have also heard that transportation may be pulled, and the visiting team from Pittsburgh may have to find their own way back to the Steel City.

“Guys are scared, but they're strong, if they could pad up and go man to man," Soto said. "They wouldn't be scared, but when you do things like that it makes them nervous. But we've got our plan. Our guys will get home. We've got a plan.”
AFL players are asking for more money. Currently they get $400 a game per player. The union is asking for over $1,000 per game per player.

i didn't know the arena league was still going either....i thought they stopped for 1 season and never heard anything more.

i've gone to an indoor game before.....to see the Green Bay Blizzard, basically the minor leagues to the Arena League.

it was actually a good time, we sat in the 2nd row and had balls thrown by us and players coming over the wall.

The Arena League did fold a few years ago but came back after a one year absence. I watched a lot of Arena Football as a kid and the local Orlando Predators were always one of the best teams. There was a time in the 90's when the Predators alms outdrew the Magic for home games with around 14-15k per game.

The one thing the AFL did do was keep Kurt Warner in football before the NFL discovered him. Warner threw 183 TD's in 3 seasons for the Iowa AFL team. Gotta love those video game like stats.

Terrell Owens is actually playing indoor football these days. How the mighty have fallen.

Quote:
On November 2, 2011, the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League announced they had extended a six-figure contract offer to Owens to play for the Wranglers in the 2012 season. On January 18, 2012, Owens announced via Twitter that he had accepted the Wranglers' offer and join their ownership group, with an official press conference to follow the following week. In his debut for the Allen Wranglers, Owens caught three passes for 53 yards and three touchdowns as the Wranglers defeated Wichita Wild 50-30.

I knew Warner was a successful AFL QB which gave him a shot with the Rams, but how the hell do you throw 180+ TD's in three seasons?

A 50 yard field helps.

Broncos' Tebow silent on Peyton Manning interest

Quote:
All of the Manning hoopla appears to have gotten to Tebow, as he uncharacteristically canceled a media session Saturday, according to WTSP-TV, and a source close to the quarterback told The Denver Post that Tebow won't comment on the Broncos' pursuit of Manning until "after the smoke clears."

But still that seems excessive. I have a hard time associating AFL with football, it's as if it's a different sport.
