Take the Chargers who took Leaf in 98' they weren't competitive again until 2004! And thats with good moves taking place!

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/1...pressure-in-dc

Good article about why Luck isn't under near the pressure RGIII is. Some scary things Shanny said too

Quote:
Look, I understand where the Redskins are. They're a desperate team that's tired of losing, so they had to do ... well, something to solve a position that has been unsettled for years. So they made St. Louis an offer it couldn't refuse and wound up with a young quarterback so talented that coaches, GMs and personnel directors at this year's NFL scouting combine labeled him "the complete package."

For the Redskins' sake -- no, for RG3's sake -- I hope they're right.

There will be less patience with him than there will be in Indianapolis with Luck. The Colts just blew up their ballclub and are in a teardown mode, rebuilding from the ground up as they did in 1998 when they made Manning their first pick and were 3-13.

That was OK then as it will be OK now because the expectations were low.

But that's not the case in Washington. The Redskins haven't napalmed their roster and haven't jettisoned veterans. In fact, Shanahan earlier this week was quoted as saying he believed the club had "a playoff-caliber offense" last season when it finished last in the NFC East and 26th in scoring.

Shanahan attributed the team's shortcomings mostly to injuries, particularly on the offensive line, but he should know better. Injuries are part of the game, and you do what you can to overcome them -- and good teams do.

Ask Houston. Nobody was hit harder by injuries, with the Texans losing their first two quarterbacks and star defensive playmaker for the season, yet they not only won their division; they won a playoff game, too.

Anyway, Shanahan's comments mean he believes Washington is close, which is why he signed off on the deal with St. Louis. Obviously, he knew what you and I do -- that the Redskins go nowhere unless they upgrade at quarterback. But rookies typically take time to develop. Yeah, Cam Newton and Andy Dalton starred as rookies, but they're the exceptions.

Peyton Manning was more the rule.

It's a position that takes time -- sometimes a lot of time -- to develop. Heck, it wasn't until his fourth season that Drew Brees became an accomplished quarterback, and by then the Chargers had all but given up on the guy -- acquiring first-round draft pick Philip Rivers to replace him.

But time is something RG3 will not have, and I feel for him.

The last time Shanahan traded up in the first round to draft a quarterback he was with Denver and chose Jay Cutler in 2006, and he went from a coach who was in the 2005 AFC Championship Game to a coach who never reached the playoffs again to a coach who was fired.

That can happen when you gamble big on rookie quarterbacks, which is another way of saying one man can determine the future of a club, and that one man in Washington is not the head coach. It's the new quarterback.

Good luck, Robert Griffin III. You're going to need it.

As long as you guys surround him with a good cast you'll be fine, go out and sign Vincent Jackson or Coltson, some protection up front, I think you guys will be fine

I don't want him to sign with Miami, but why not go to Miami and listen to their sales pitch? He has nothing to lose.
I'm just surprised he's serious about Denver. Lets face it, there's a lot of Tebow worship among those fans. A good chunk of the fans are so illogical when it comes to the guy I could see them booing Peyton the second he throws his first pick and chanting for Tebow, even if Tebow isn't there anymore. Just seemed to me like a situation Manning would want to avoid.

The Jags would probably be forced to trade for Tebow for no other reason than to fill seats. And it's not like we saw any real progress by Gabbert anyway in his first year.

Didn't you guys sell out most games last year? You can always use Tebow as a hybrid TE/WR. I think eventually that will be his position and could potentially be very successful for him.

I'd love to see them pick up Carl Nicks, and Grubbs or Gaither. But they would need for me to feel good;

Grubbs
Nicks
Jackson

And a sleeper in my op
Eddie Royal (he looked like he'd be bigger than Marshall when he came in with SHanny and Cutler)\

And I'd be shocked if they managed to get Nicks, and Jackson.

lol seems others agree Nicks and Jackson would be big help

Why not he's won games now, thats more than RG3 has done despite his obvious gifts? Its worth the shot, the guys had less than a full season to give it a go, and on a bad team at that! In my op he's earned at least 2 full seasons, and I hate when guys don't get their shots!

If you call ownership buying up thousands of seats and putting tarps over thousands more then ya, I guess you could say we "sold out" every game.

Why would you be surprised? The AFC West is the weakest division in the NFL. Not to mention that he has made it clear that he will not be playing in the NFC. The Broncos are the most logical decision. I highly doubt that he wants to deal with Brady twice a year.

As for Teabow to the Jags, are you kidding? Why would the Jaguars want to put them selves in that position?

Uhh cause he can sell out stadiums... Especially if he keeps going positive in the win column.

That whole "won't play in the NFC" thing was clearly not true. Why would Manning have a 6 1/2 hour meeting with the Cardinals if he wasn't interested? If he wasn't considering them, he would have declined a meeting like he did with the Chiefs and Seahawks.

So youre going to bring the circus to town in hopes of selling tickets? You have a second year quaterback who you drafted with the 10th overall pick last year and yet you are going to bring in Tebow? Yeah sounds like a great idea, considering the fact that Tebow more than proved himself last season . And what would they have to give up for Tebow, the No. 7 pick? Yeah, not happening.

Maybe he doesn't want to play there? Everyone(reporters) assumed that the Dolphins were the favorites to land Manning just because he owns a condo in South Beach.

I keep hearing how competitive Manning is, why would he absolutely want to play in the weakest division? Just so he can say he beat the weakest teams to make the playoffs? If he is so competitive, he should thrive on facing Brady twice a year.

In 2010 there was no cap, and in 2011 the cap was $120.375 million. One reason the cap didn't go up much was because last year there wasn't performance-based pay, which gives minimum salary young players (like Victor Cruz) who were clearly underpaid a bonus. This year performance-based pay returns and each team has to set aside $3.46 million in cap space for performance-based pay. There were also some increased costs in benefits that kept the cap number fairly flat. As previously mentioned the cap will go up a lot in 2014 when the new TV contracts kick in.

The thing is, Manning has a frienship with John Elway, John Fox, and Ken Whisenhunt, whereas he has no connections with anyone in Miami. Even worse, we have a first year head coach.

He has a house in Miami, though. That seems to be a little connection, but I have no idea how it compares to the other connections.
