Well I'd say the fact that very few Ivy League players make it big in the NFL should tell you that brains only get you so far if you don't have the talent. As is, Ponder is not good enough, that could change with time, some QBs just need experience/seasoning but it says a bit that Ponder was supposed to be a 3rd or 4th round pick, Vikings really reached to get him.

Ponder got his undergraduate degree in finance in 2 1/2 years, then got an MBA, and was halfway to a masters degree in sports management when he left Florida State.

Santana Moss should be back, but similar to Morgan and Royal, missed major time last season. He's also 33. Jabar Gaffney is still under contract, but is 31 himself. Basically, the Redskins have a bunch of No. 2's and 3's. Who's gonna scare a defense, or be the playmaker when the team needs a top threat -- like division foes Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz in New York, or Miles Austin in Dallas? Speaking of Dallas, third receiver Laurent Robinson had more touchdowns (11) than Garcon, Morgan and Royal combined (8) last season.
Consider: The Redskins are paying Garcon and Morgan, neither of whom have ever had a 1,000-yard season, a combined $14.5 million per year (although Garcon's deal is backloaded). Marshall is far more effective than both, has played for Shanahan, is a guy a team must prepare for and costs a shade over $9 million per. If willing to look past Marshall's latest off-field issue, Washington could have made a deal for the big receiver, kept Moss and Gaffney and still signed a Garcon, Morgan or Royal. Then the club would carry a surefire No. 1 option, a solid 2, Moss at the 3 and veterans Gaffney and Anthony Armstrong for depth. They also could have spent some loot elsewhere.

There's no question he's got serious interest in Buffalo, as he reportedly took a physical and flew in his fiancee today. Williams has said he wants to visit some more teams but the Bills should do whatever it takes to get him signed before he leaves town.

This isn't confirmed, but from a source inside the Bills front office, but Buffalo has offered to make him the highest paid defensive player in the league. I'm sure that has a bit to do with things.

Keep "Ole' Glass Cannon" upright all season and I think the Lions will be in store for some great years.
Cowboys signed QB Kyle Orton, formerly of the Chiefs, to a three-year contract.
Orton's first visit was his last. The money must be excellent, as Orton certainly could have found a better shot at starting if he let the quarterback market play out. He's an upgrade on the retiring Jon Kitna, who had long been one of the better backups in the league. Although many Cowboy fans will likely claim otherwise, Orton's signing should not be interpreted as any sort of a message to Tony Romo.
