The Browns selected Josh Gordon with a second round pick in the Supplemental Draft. Gordon was the only player selected. Cleveland is now without a 2013 second round pick.

ESPN will debut a new weekly NFL hightlights series this fall.

Mike & Mike's Best of the NFL will feature the top highlights of the previous week's games. The show will be hosted by Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg of the popular ESPN Radio show Mike & Mike in the Morning. The show will offer footage not seen in other highlight packages throughout the weekend.

Mike & Mike's Best of the NFL will debut Sept. 11 at 3 p.m., and air every Tuesday throughout the NFL season.

I'm really not happy that I can't listen to Dan Patrick Show anymore. I always use to listen to his show driving to work. Last week my local station dropped his show for local (inferior) programming.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned that the Saints and Drew Brees have agreed to a 5-year, $100 million deal.

Brees's 2012 salary of $40 million is fully guaranteed. In 2013, the Saints will have a three-day window to release him after the waiver period begins (five days after the Super Bowl); if not, Brees gets another $15 million of fully guaranteed earnings, bringing his two-year total to $55 million.

In 2014, the same three-day waiver scenario is in place before Brees is fully guaranteed another $5 million, with an additional $1 million in salary. Under the assumption Brees is the team's quarterback for the next three years, he would make $61 million during that stretch, with $60 million fully guaranteed, the highest guaranteed total an NFL player has ever earned.

I just now noticed it. About time the Saints came to an agreement. Saints fans needed something positive going into the 2012 season.

60 million guaranteed. That's the only important part of the whole deal and the reason why is took so long. That's a staggering number but he deserves since based on performance, was underpaid relative to the other qb's during his tenure with the Saints.

Broncos’ Elvis Dumervil arrested on felony assault charge

Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony, on Saturday night in Miami.

Few details are available about what happened. KCNC in Denver reports that bond for Dumervil was set at $7,500.

The Broncos released a brief statement acknowledging the arrest.

“Our organization is aware of the matter and is continuing to gather the facts,” the statement says. “This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course.”

Hope he gets suspended for the season

The Ed Block Courage Award is an annual award presented to selected players in the National Football League (NFL), who are voted by their teammates as role models of inspiration, sportsmanship, and courage.

Dumervil is in some big trouble if these charges stick.

In a way I'm suprised the reports shows Forte is close to signing. I figure they'll settle between 7-8 million a year than the proposed 9+ he was originally asking for.

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times says the Bears and RB Matt Forte have agreed to a long-term deal. No word yet on the terms of the deal.

Edit: Adam Schefter (who doesn't credit Jensen for breaking the story) says it's a 4-year deal that will average about $8 million per year, although with a running back what really matters is the guaranteed money in the deal.

Bears signed Matt Forte to a four-year, $32 million contract.

After two years of wrangling, Forte finally has his long-term deal at age 26. Instead of playing out the 2012 season on a one-year franchise tag tender of $7.749 million, he now has a contract that averages roughly $8 million and takes him through the 2015 season. The annual numbers sound similar to the six-year, $45.6 deal LeSean McCoy signed and the five-year, $43.5 million contract Arian Foster received, but the guaranteed number figures to be less. Forte was on pace for 1,982 total yards, but just five touchdowns before going down with a knee injury in Week 12 last season.

Sounds fair. Age 30 is about the age most running backs are done anyway and the Forte will be that age at the end of this deal.

The deadline for signing franchise players to multi-year contracts has passed, but apparently the Ravens and Ray Rice reached a deal shortly before the deadline. It is apparently 5-years/$40 million with $25 million due in the first 2 years of the deal. It appears that 9 players will be playing under the franchise tag this season.

Wow, kicker/punter contracts are getting crazy these days. Though I probably wouldn't call this contract bad given how good Scobee is at what he does. He's nailed some huge kicks for us.
