I'm not surprised they're going with the replacements because neither side wants to negotiate. The NFL needs to offer the refs a bigger raise and get rid of their plan to have additional referee crews which would make it so some crews don't work every week and therefore make less money than they had before. In return the refs need to stop asking for a pension plan. They are part-time employees and there are very few places where part-time employees get a guaranteed pension. However, it seems like this is a game of chicken where the refs think the league will cave into their demands once real games start and the league thinks the refs will cave once they start missing game checks.

I mean I'm guessing if they really make into the regular season with replacements it will then take a disaster game changing MEGA fail to get the good refs back.

Even in that situation I'm not sure if the league would give the refs a better offer. I think the league has made the decision that they're not going to make a better offer and they'll wait for the refs to cave eventually.

Really?!? I mean unless I'm misremembering hochuli got grilled for like 2-3 weeks on that call, and I think with small issues every game will see and something major like that it could force a change (even though I think hochuli still got the super bowl that year lol). NFL does what they want so it wouldn't shock me if you were right.

Variety reports that the NFL is teaming with Tony Krantz's Flame Ventures to make Week 14, a drama to be produced and directed by Krantz ("Sports Night") from a script by Ron Shelton ("Bull Durham").
The trade says: "Aimed to be a four-quadrant movie in the vein of "Crash," pic will chronicle the last three weeks of the NFL's regular season as seen through the eyes of fictional players, coaches and their significant others.
Because of the byes week 14 means each team has 4 games left though not 3 since there are 17 weeks in the season.

Should really be called game 14 then.

Free agent S Nick Collins will consult a surgeon next week about receiving clearance to play football again.
The Packers released Collins in April following single-fusion neck surgery, and he's yet to be medically cleared. Collins should be able to find a team willing to take the leap if he gets an okay from doctors. A Pro Bowl-caliber playmaker in his prime, 29-year-old Collins collected 17 interceptions from 2008-2010.

The Dolphins had some trouble getting out of Dallas this morning. Their team plane backed into another plane, and the plane was too damaged to fly, so they had to wait several hours for a replacement plane to fly them home.

In the latest edition of Sports Illustrated Peter King has the Packers over the Broncos in the Super Bowl. Last year King didn't do very well and had the Falcons over the Chargers, but in 2010 he correctly picked a Steelers-Packers Super Bowl, although he had the Steelers winning. King has Aaron Rodgers as Offensive Player of the Year and Peyton Manning as MVP.

Hopefully they have different covers for different regions for the country……didn’t they do that last year?? The issue I got had Matthews on it but someone else on here told me theirs had someone else.

There's also a cover with Calvin Johnson and Matt Stafford that will go to much of the Midwest. I couldn't find any other regional covers so it might just be the Gronk and Lions covers.

The NFL has pushed the trading deadline back to the Tuesday after the eighth week of the season.
It's a much-needed change. Previously, the deadline was the Tuesday following Week 6, not giving teams enough time to decide if they're buyers or sellers. The extra two weeks has the potential to generate more trades. Also, the league announced that there will be a new "injured reserve exception" going forward. One player per team will be allowed to come off IR at some point later in the season.

Titans receiver Kenny Britt has reportedly been suspended 1 game for his recent DUI arrest, the 8th arrest of his NFL career. Britt has spent most of the preseason on the PUP list after tearing his ACL and MCL last season and is nowhere near 100%, so this punishment isn't too severe as he likely wouldn't have been very productive anyway. Britt has 3 days to decide whether he'll appeal.
