Thanks for the info. I think it's right that both Panasonic and Pioneer should be there one more time since Plasmas are gone now.

Have you ever thought about getting whatever Pioneer has left of their kuros and selling them at your store? I know they have some for warranties but those should be almost up, if not already. Alot of people would definitely purchase brand new Pioneer displays.

Sony already has a range of professional OLED monitors (in smaller sizes). Check out the specifics here - http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/mkt-nab...b2014monitors/

You would be paying for features (as a consumer) you would not be using.

yeah I actually came across those recently. I wonder why Sony doesn't come out with some consumer OLED sets still. I know they ended that Panasonic partnership, but if they've already been making smaller monitors, I wonder why they're behind the others for bigger sizes. Personally I wish they would even make a 20-24 inch OELD I could sue for a computer monitor (consumer one, not these expensive ones).

Why is there such a discrepancy in prices?

http://www.lg.com/us/oled-tvs and http://www.lg-55ea9800.com have the same models at different prices.

Why does LG sell it directly for so much more, when dealers can sell it cheaper. It seems like LG just likes ripping people off.

Manufacturers usually charge MSRP, or a hair less.

Well it’s certainly not for lack of trying…since 1994, that be 20 years worth of R&D, unknown or since forgotten by many - http://digitaljournal.com/article/249965

Bottom line, it is still too expensive to effectively and economically sell OLED in the consumer space for Sony as well as many others.

I think OLED is still many miles away, at least in the larger screen sizes. Two or three years, at least. Manufacturers are not eager to leave LED/LCD as long as they can scare up some profits.

LG's owns the best technology patents to produce OLED panels with good yields and reliability. So for the next 2 to 3 years they will own the OLED TV market.

Regarding larger OLED displays we'll see LG launch 4K 65" and 77" by the end of this summer if not sooner.

LG's two 55" OLED TV are selling reasonably well.

Wow, I missed deals on used Samsung OLED sets for less than half price. Only thing, is for someone to return an OLED, I would be mighty worried it ahs an issue, unless they planned to all along, due to price.

Robert, how are the prices on LG'S two 55 inch 2014 models, compared with the EA9800? I am very tempted to get an EA9800, despite not being able to afford it, and pay over time and sell both of my 111fd sets for whatever I can get given their issues.

Also, have you seen the Samsung 2013 OLED, to be able to give an idea of how much better it is? Supposedly, it's better either in bright rooms or dark ones, but I can't remember which.

Also, what would be the risks of using one of these first generation oens (EA9800)? Is burn in the main risk?

And do you know if people susceptible to plasma flicker have tow orry about that with OLED also? I am tempted to get this with the good deal I found and just sell it if it bothers me.

LogMeIn, not sure I understand everything you are asking. LG's 55EA9800 was introduced middle of the 2013 TV model year. So it's about 6 months old. The EA8800 was launched in the EU about one month ago and just this week in the USA so I would call it a 2014 model. The EA8800 is flat, both current models are 1080p.

Late summer 2014 LG will introduce three more OLED TVs, all 4K and curved, 55", 65" and 77". Two weeks ago I was invited to private viewing of the first pilot production unit of the upcoming 4K 77" and it was absolutely stunning!

The 55EA9800 launched at $15k and now they are going for 1/3 of that. This TV delivers a gorgeous picture, nothing like any other display you have ever seen. I don't see any dithering or flicker on any of the three OLED TVs we have on display in our store.

On that last comment, did you eman the 9800 or the 8800 ahs really already dropped a lot? it's not out in many palces, is it?

Despite not liking the curved screens, I ordered a 9800 now. I'm worried because 1. I really couldn't afford it and so may need a new job to freakin pay off a tv lol and 2. I am all panicky about burn in potential. Supposedly, I can return it if I ened to and be out only return shipping.

Thanks. I have no doubt I will love the tv. These odd head issues so many tvs caused is the really only thing I am worried about (well other than the tv arriving in working order). Even doctors have no clue what's going on. I figure that i'll come up with some way of keeping and enjoying it regardless, even if I have to use it sparingly and use some other tv to rest my head, though.

I can't imagine how astounded I will be at picture quality, though, because even with the ST50 I about fell down in amazement and obviously several models of plasma surpass that, let alone OLED.

An interesting OLED tid bit.

I stopped by my Best Buy Magnolia store today hoping they might had an OLED show up. They didn't. Maybe someday but the rep in Magnolia mentioned that the BB store in Riverside (the next town over) had just received a Samsung OLED and it was on display.

It wasn't long before a customer, who had read OLED's were bendable, tested to see if it was. He grab the edge of the set and cracked the glass. The store in Riverside no longer has an OLED.

Another BB store also had one on display. I was told it wasn't up for long when it fell over and broke.

My getting to see an OLED in my general area is getting tough to do.

lol. For mine I am so nervous to even go near it because it seems so fragile. I am still deciding whether or not to try to sell it because, SURPRISE, it's yet another tv that hurts my head and eyes for some reason. It may very well be my eye issues I have ahd and maybe would not do it in the future, but also for some reason the picture doesn't look right to me, either. The perfect blacks are great, but when watching content I would say my kuro is amazing in a lot of scenes, too.

I wonder if anyone here knows if it's normal for OLED sets to not give accurate results on calibration discs. Because otherwise something is wrong with this set as it is WAY off on brightness tests on the Disney wow disc and the AVS HD disc. It is showing as too dark and I have to raise brightness wayyyyyyy up for it to have the proper squares show on those tests, but then in real content the black level is horrible and you can see a lot of what's apparently IR or burn in which was hidden by the black level normally, as it's an uneven screen.

I am flat baffled, still, by this tv. It fails about every test there is on calibration discs, whether it be the thx mode, expert modes, or any other mode, and a lot of thigns don't pass no matter what I change settings to.

For example, on the Disney wow disc beginner contrast test, it NEVER shows any bars on the right side of the screen, even if lowering contrast or oled light to minimums. On the ADVANCED contrast test, it is pretty close. For brightness, default settings are nowhere near proper according to both the advanced brightness test. To get the 1% to show, I have to raise brightness all the way from 50 to 55 and then it BARELY shows. Color shows as way off also. To the point where it has to be raised all the way from 50 to over 60 to look right in the actual tests.

Same holds true on the AVS HD disc. There are supposed to be several more brightness bars and a couple more contrast bars flashing and you have to raise brightness to around 55 and still one bar that's supposed to flash isn't noticeably flashing. Just as with the Disney disc, NO SETTINGS whatsoever get the contrast bars to flash properly, ie there is white clipping no matter what and black crush almost no matter what. For black crush, if you DO raise brightness to where it passes those tests, then on real content the black level is very bad. Color is just as far off on the AVS disc as on the wow one.

So I can't figure out what's going on. If they truly have it that far off of calibration (in expert I tried a website's suggested settings and it still had bad results) or if the enw panels (mine was manufactured this year) are different than past ones and also whether or not the tv flat out isn't capable of proper brightness or contrast levels, which would make it odd to be rated so well. I read somewhere that D-nice said it can't be calibrated properly, so I am guessing reviewers just overrated it, but maybe I'm missing something or maybe they made some change this year in panels.

I don't know what to do now. I already probably have to sell it due to it bothering my head, but even then I don't know whether or not I should try to get LG to look at it because if it's truly faulty nobody would buy it and I am out a lot of money. Hopefully someone would pay well for it because I've only used it a very low amount of hours and want to lose as little as possible.

Oh man. Now on some content it's blowing me away, such as when someone is wearing black. But if I can't get it not bother my head I have no choice but return or sell it. It would probably knock me to the floor if I had it calibrated. I am currently trying to get this guy to sell me a 101fd instead, but I am going to miss this tv (the EA9800) if I can't keep it. Headaches and not enough money are the only two things which would hold me back. It does have issues, though, such as looking like there's burn in right off the bat and that white pixel issue I had and many people have dead subpixels. Also motion is bad on it. But I could ignore all of those if I had more money and no headaches.

Is there anything new about smaller OLEDs from LG? I remember an article mentioning that LG had patents or something else (I forget details of it) related to OLED tvs in two sizes less than 55 inches. For me, I think an ultra HD OLED in 46-51 inches would be perfect.
