As a note to anyone interested in these, some scenes are like a whole different world than on my kuro. My kuro does have some issues, so maybe a working one would be closer, but I think the processing is apparently much better on the OLED because a lot of scenes seem more clear. If only I could figure out how to not have it hurt my head, I would keep it.

I would recommend one or two of these before turning on the set

Robert, any news on the 55EC9700, such as release date or price? I don't know if I can wait that long for a tv, but I hate to keep the EA9800, knowing later this year there's a 4k OLED. My guess is it would never get as low as I can afford, though.

This is so sad. I was going to send this back for an exchange in the next couple days, but have now read so many people with so many problems with these that I am close to feeling i'll have no choice but return for refund and pay restocking because it seems like it's just a disaster technology. And I couldn't get a ride to go buy someone's 101fd. So this is all disappointing.

You're making me very nervous. LG's OLED was going to be my next TV. It might take time before the bugs are worked out.

I am disappointed for you.

Well, the main problem is someone ran slides for hundreds of hours, thinking that would help uneven wear of pixels, but then watched some LOT movies and now even in real content he notices lines where the black bars would have been.

Other common problems are dead subpixels, lazy pixels, bad motion handling, reflections, possible burn in (on mine even after only 1-2 hours of use I noticed on gray slides all kinds of patches of lighter or darker shades and on a certain scene of a movie, where the screen is near black, I see shadowy SHAPES. SO I think mine may even have burn in when I never had stationary objects on the screen), gaming input lag (tested it and it didn't bother me though, as rock band games actually seemed less bothersome than on my kuro), and probably other issues I am forgetting.

If I had the money, I would just keep it and see how it goes, but the price keeps dropping where I will lose a bundle if I don't like it and want to sell it off and I don't have the money for it and was going to have to figure out a way to pay it off, and all for all these issues.

It may be worth it to me, even with those issues, but a lot of recent tvs do hurt my head and this one does, as well, but in a different way. If I knew my head would adjust and it not bother it, I would keep it and ignore the issues. Today, I was really noticing the inky blacks in some content, which just reminds me my kuro ahs a black level problem.

PLEASE someone get LG to comprehend they need to stop going overboard on thinness. All of these tvs have all this crap similar to what burn in looks like because the tv is so thin that the parts on the back press into the screen and show themselves. Why manufacturers don't learn after years and years that overly thin leads to a ton of image issues beats me. All the uniformity issues on LCDs, for example. If tvs were not so thin, all of these issues would be gone on a lot of models.

I have been following your posts with discouragement. OLED was going to be my next but after following you, I went to Best Buy to set in front of Samsung's 65" 4K to see if I liked it or not. The 75" would be what I am interested in.

I played Life of Pi and Baraka. I don't like it. I would not swap my Samsung 64F8500 plasma for it.

To me it looks like it will end up being LG's 77" 4K OLED BUT only when they get the bugs out. Maybe this year or next or possibly after that. If the future is OLED, LG will get it together.

I;m still tempted to get a replacement, but there are definitely a lot of issues. The clarity and black level are making me really tempted to just get and keep one..., but if I could somehow wait a year, their 4k 55EB9600 would be nice because 4k passive 3d would be awesome.

Robert, I meant 55EB9600. In other words, the 4k 55 inch. For some reason they have the 1080p one have a C in it as if newest and 4k have a B in it. One store has the 1090p one up for preorder and says june is the release date, supposedly, but I can find no info on the 4k 55 inch one anywhere. If I KNEW the 4k one would be down around what I paid on the EA within the next half year or eight months or something, I'd probably wait and get that instead of considering keeping this faulty model or finding another kuro.

I sure hope someone lets LG know about the uniformity issues on grays with these OLEDs because most reviews act like the tv is perfect, and LG needs to know some of us can't stand how patchy the grays look and the motion is bad, as well. And Chad B mentioned colors having room for improvement and reflections. So there is plenty for LG to improve. And I still maintain that mine has burn in whichw as there after 2 hours of use and zero minutes of static images.

LG's two 55" OLED TV are selling reasonably well.

Been lurking here a while reading your posts on the new OLED sets.

Thanks for all your information on these. I literally cannot wait till these come out

Thumbs up LG's 65" and 77" 4K OLED TVs

Just got an update from our LG contacts about the launch of LG's 4K 65" and 77" OLED TVs.

Take a look at our 4K OLED dedicated site for the surprising price and features, like the wider color pallet, DCI and other exclusive OLED features.

Hi Robert,

Any indication when LG will release a flat screen version of the 4K OLED?

From what I am told, curved high-end display will be around for many years to come. I must say when I first saw curved TVs I did not like them, but after pending the past year watching several models and sizes at various viewing distances I have come to like them. It's a modest curve and while watching content you barely notice the curve.

I hope you have an opportunity to see LG's new 4K OLED TV so you can see for yourself how they perform and look with various content. These new OLED TVs are absolutely stunning and nothing we have seen from the best Kuro's come close to the performance of OLED.

We're calibrating our OLED showroom demos in rec. 709 and DCI color space. For the DCI calibrated mode we will display high dynamic range 4K still images mastered in DCI.

With all this said, I do expect we'll see more flat OLED TVs in some 2015 models that will launch next summer as the consumer demand is strong for flat panels.

It sounds like you are accepting that the screen is curved and not exactly wanting it though. Just like many accept other flaws in a tv. However this is a flaw (it is distorting the image and thus is a flaw) that has no reason to exist. Why do I say that. The fact that work has been done to create a flaw that otherwise wouldn't exist and solves no otherwise present issue, hence this whole curved oled notion is beyond bizzare to me.

I can't wait to see what oleds are like in a few years time, the lg I saw (excluding the curved screen) still had a few areas I want to see notable improvements in. Still exciting times, and scary times that lg could be the hifi leader with oled in a few years time.

Thanks for that link! I know it's still a large sum of money, but $6,999 for that 65" LG OLED TV seems like a very fair price to me honestly. I was expecting 4K OLED to be in the +$10,000 range for a while

I'll stick with my Kuro...

Big knock years ago was the lifespan of OLED was pathetic. I'm assuming they've made strides since then - the question is how much.

Thanks for the info Robert. I'm looking for a flat screen as I prefer to wall-mount the TV.

I can understand wanting a flat one for flatness' sake, but I don't think wall mounting is a reason to prevent someone from buying one of these as I'm reading that the curved screens are going to be wall mountable. Maybe Robert can give us some extra info on that?
