Lemme' guess, $6k? They were $5k up until this week signaling the end of the sale. At least stock levels will finally replenish before the next drop. Mine took 1-1/2 months to be delivered, and Best Buy was only happy to hold onto my money during that span. A deposit would have been more consumer-friendly. Anyway, I digress...

At least Sony's not going down without a fight (that 940c holds it own against LG's OLED). Only way they can be remotely competitive with OLED is to rebrand an LGD panel. RGB OLED's not happening in the consumer TV market (anytime soon, if ever).

Yea I heard Sony's 940c is a pretty good tv but right now I aint in the market for a new tv and as long as my W900A keeps ticking I wont be. Like I said I am a patient man and I can wait for OLED tv's to come down in price and also I want to sit back and see how everything pans out with all this new tech thats coming out. I have softened my veiws on 4K because whether I like it or not its going to around for awhile because thats they way all the manufacturers are going. Cant fight progress! LOL But OLED will be my next set its just it wont be for quite awhile.

I'm getting my LG 9100 Oled delivered to me today. I've only had an lcd TV so far, so I'm not used to having to break in a tv. What do I need to do to break it in and do I need to avoid watching anything for any period of time?

I'm not an expert, I just did some research as I was planning to get an OLED myself as soon as my plasma died.

For about 100 hours, don't use vivid mode (or whatever it's called for the TV), you can watch letterboxed/pillarboxed programming, just don't do it for very long, and you probably shouldn't game on it at all. There's no need to run slides like a plasma.

I couldn't find any real empirical evidence that any of this is necessary, but you might as well to be on the safe side.

Since the 2016 LG OLEDS and the 2016 Samsung SUHDs are already UHD Alliance Premium Certified, I would surmise that they were used by the Alliance in the consumer testing to arrive at the dual specifications. (More than 1000 nits peak brightness and less than 0.05 nits black level OR More than 540 nits peak brightness and less than 0.0005 nits black level)

Good to see the "signature" line is flat, not curved.

I think I remember him mentioning that it wasn't available in the us.

And have prices been announced yet?

The only thing I've seen is that the 65" LG Signature G6 OLED will start at "less than $10,000."

"LG's Director of Technology Strategy Neil Robinson talks about the developments in the new Ultra HD 4K OLED panels and how they differ from last year. He answers questions about the increased brightness and colour gamut which is now 99% of DCI-P3 and High Dynamic Range (HDR) support including Dolby Vision. He also address issues from previous generations such as vignetting (dark edges) and banding just above black and in other parts of the image."
Quote:
In this interview LG's Product Manager Robert Taylor discusses their new OLED line-up including the flagship G6, the E6, the curved C6 and the entry level B6. These new OLED 4K TVs are certified as Premium UHD TVs by the Ultra HD Alliance and feature a brighter image, a wider colour gamut that hits 99% of DCI-P3 and support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) including Dolby Vision. Apart from the B6, all the other models support 3D and the higher end E6 and G6 have built-in sound bases for superior sound quality.
Quote:
LG's Chief Operating Officer Andrew Mackay talks about their success with Ultra HD 4K OLED in 2015 and the company's plans for 2016 with four new ranges, more flat screens, High Dynamic Range (HDR) support, including Dolby Vision, and Premium UHD certification from the Ultra HD Alliance. He also mentions the company's new Super Bowl OLED advert being directed by Sir Ridley Scott and their plans for a big TV push going into the European Championships and the Olympics.

That is impressive! In the last video; U.K market for premium tvs (over $2200)
LG market share in 2013, 4%; in 2014, 8% and through November in 2015, 40%.

Default LG 2016 OLED models

I received some very good PMs, emails and calls about LG's 2016 OLED line-up and thought it best to answer here so everyone learns.

I was asked by a Blu-ray member to explain the differences between LG's new 2016 4K OLED series so here goes:

At CES LG announced 4 new 4K OLED series for 2016.

- B6, flat 55" and 65", no 3D and no price or launch date at this time.

- C6, curved 55" and 65", Passive 3D, and no price or launch date at this time.

- E6, flat 55" and 65", new elegant "Picture on Glass Design, like the G6 Signature Series, but not as thin and only planned for 55" and 65". Passive 3D, not as thin as the G6 signature series. 65" is the only model/size that is available to order now at $6,999 and will be the first to launch, but no exact allocation date at this moment.

Check out my new dedicated E6 page with more details.

- G6, is the Flagship Signature Series flat, 65" and 77", Passive 3D, 1/10" thick, or should I say thin. Passive 3D and no price or launch date at this time.

LG will also keep the 55EG9100 in the line for 2016.

-Robert

Looking at the G6 and how the bottom folds up when you don't want a stand, how much thicker does it jut out from the panel? Looking at the panel in the vids so far I couldn't see any plugs for mounts, are there some? Will this work with low profile wall mounts?

the fact that their 65" FLAGSHIP is only $7,000 is absolutely astounding.

When you consider that there are 3 models UNDER it, can we realistically start thinking that we could see a 4K OLED under $2k if not this year then next? That would be wild.

Heh, yeah, when he got to the bit in the video about four stacked credits cards I ruefully muttered 'well that sounds about right' but that's pretty amazing.

$2k is pretty much my sweet spot and the thought that I might be tempted by OLED as soon as Super Bowl LI is pretty exciting.

OTOH, the thought that I might get coaxed into raising that sweet spot because a $3k+ TV is just too good to be true is a little scary too.

God, what great problems to have.

Price is not as bad as I thought. Wait a few months it'll come down $2000-$3000 in price...
