But what about the B6 and the C6? Will I be losing out on too much by getting the cheaper models versus the E6?

I am dying to have an OLED 4k TV. But I cannot afford a $8 G6. $3 to $4k tops.
The main feature you will lose is 3D capability.

Oh man... I love my 3D blus...

But then again there aren't any 4k 3D content...

Might just end up shelling out for the smaller E6 :/.

I just got a EG9100...The perfect blacks and contrast made me quickly forget the lack of UHD for now.
I love the passive 3D and I can't figure out how it can change any 2D content into 3D with such good depth and brightness

Obviously it isn’t free, but the extra money spent is well worth it to me it as it avoids the hassle of multiple exchanges if I get dead pixels, bad cases of banding, non-straight (curved) panels or anything else that could be wrong with it. Nothing I hate more than playing a panel lottery.
Robert, May I ask what it would cost to quality check a 65" B6? I will look to buy this fall

I have had three sets QCd by V.E. All three sets ended up NOT having any of the problems the different models had that I would read about on the forums.

I paid no taxes by purchasing from V.E. which minimized the cost of the QC.

As an example: The first set from V.E. was a Samsung 65" 8500 plasma. Paid around $3200 + $500 for QC, calibration and shipping.

If I had purchased from a dealer in town, I would have had to pay $3500 plus sales tax of $280.00 making the total price to me of $3,780.00.

The in-town store price was $80 more with no QC and calibration.

Now here is a big plus, calibration: My first set was calibrated by Ken Miller and the next two by David MacKenzie. Two world class calibrators. Better than having Best Buy send one of their employees over to do it.

Since you are considering an OLED, David MacKanzie, I think, is considered one of the most experienced calibrators for OLEDs.

Thank you very much Jim. I was considering Kevin Miller as well. I am located in Nassau County, NY. Glad to hear you had a good experience with VE.

You live in N.Y. You lucky dog. I have been trying to get to V.E. and the ShootOut for a few years now. Something always prevents it. Last year I was really going to go and figured out that it was going to cost me over $1000 to do it (air flight, rooms, car rental, etc). At the same time, I was getting ready to order another TV. So, I put the $1000 savings on the new TV from Robert.

You can pop over and see the ShootOut but you don't get to save on taxes.

By the way, I was in B.B. yesterday and they had the 65" B6 up along with a 55" C6.

The B6 was beautiful. If LG made a 77" B6, that would possible be my next set after winning the lottery

Thanks for the suggestion, Saw the 65" B6 at Best Buy, that's the one I'll get. But I'm going to wait till October. If prices fall around Black Friday, my credit card will match the lower price (Citi Price Rewind). I have four months to sell my 58" Samsung Plasma on eBay. I'm hoping to net $500. It's such a beautiful set, I hate to part with it but there's no room in my home for another TV.

I sold my Vizio D50 for 300...Didn't feel like waiting too long to get rid of it as the new Oled was being delivered.

If you go into your sound setting and choose the ARC/Optical (HDMI/optical) on the OLED you should have to use Simplink for anything.

Pardon my ignorance, but isnt calibration something that must be performed in the room where you will be using the display? How can a pro calibrator calibrate your diisplay first (somewhere else, with probably different lighting environment), then ship it to you afterward??

Yes, but if you have any bluray player with CEC turned on, Simplink can activate those bluray players just by powering on the TV. I dealt with this issue for a few days before finding a solution. My Sony BD player kept powering on for no apparent reason

Appreciate the 4k Streaming from Vudu but really wish there was a good option to rent 4K Blu Rays by mail. I subscribe to Netflix's DVD.com service but so far they haven't mentioned anything about carrying UHD Discs

This was brought up on a thread at the AVS forums, and David McKenzie came back with this:

Quote:
As has always been the case with calibrations done for VE, the service includes a Night mode (~35 fL peak with BT.1886 EOTF) and a Day mode (as bright as the display can get without distortion, and 2.2 gamma). The LG OLEDs have these two ISF branded pictures modes, and they are both sufficient to take care of the differences in room lighting in the TV's final destination. So, no mixed/compromised approach is necessary.

The calibration is done against a reference source, in this case, the DVDO generator. One advantage to a calibration in your own home is that the calibrator can let you know of any errors that your individual source components may have. For example, if you have an AV receiver that messes up the gamma, a calibration against a reference source can't do anything to correct that - although you can usually avoid such problems by following best practices like putting the AVR into video passthrough mode and shutting off any video altering controls it may have.

Let's imagine the worst case scenario: an AVR or other product that alters the signal and can't have this behavior defeated. I personally can't think of any of these off the top of my head, but let's imagine there is one for the purposes of discussion. If I were visiting your home and doing a calibration there and found such a device, my first reaction would be to tell you to ditch this product and choose one of the many others on the market that respect the integrity of the content as it was produced. Calibrating while fighting a device that's messing around with the source would be a compromise, anyway - it's better to start with a good source than it is to fight a rogue device.

In the analog days, small individual tolerances in components and players would make this approach unworkable. HDMI has absolutely leveled the playing field, and these problems are mercifully getting rarer - as well as players like the Oppos, you can get totally affordable Panasonic BD players, or a PS3 for example, that give you an unmangled signal.
He is the one who had calibrated my TV, btw. And it looks phenomenal, whether it’s day or night.
