Are smaller OLEDs ever happening? I would love to see a 37"-42" OLED for the bedroom

Probably not from LG, but Samsung, yes: http://www.oled-info.com/tags/oled-devices/tablets

Samsung's investment in OLED is for cell phones and tablets and they are using what's called RGB strip, vs. LG's priority WRGB OLED scheme.

For now LG's WRGB OLED is the only way to build large OLED panels reliability.

When competitors enter the big screen UHD OLED market in a couple of years, they will probably be buying their panels from LG.

^ good observation and most likely yes. LG and Sharp are the dominant display panel manufacturers behind most of the major brands and sometimes even many of the tier 2 brands use panels from the 2 big players.

And this will likely not change, as the cost of a TV panel fab plant ranks right there with the cost of a semiconductor fab plant, ie. Billion$

From what I understand, TV panels are "binned" just like semi chips. So, the panels that test/grade out higher will probably go in to the higher-end TV's, with the "lesser" panels going in to budget lines / models.

I believe that is right. In fact, in the past some manufacturers have marketed a premium series advertised "with hand selected parts".

What gives with that? One look at that was all it took to keep me happily on my Samsung Plasma until the life goes out of it.
If you leave a static image on any television for a long period of time you will get burn in.

I have to say so myself, I was never a fan of a curved television, but the 65 inch OLED is simply amazing. Consumers will never understand how beautiful this television until they see it in person. LG really has something special on their hands.

Wasn't a huge fan of the curve, but seeing in person changed my mind. The will also have a flat one as well.

My local Best Buy is expecting the 65EG9600 in a few weeks. Can't wait to see it!

More about LG OLED and HDR:

"LG is still not 100% sure how HDR will be implemented in its OLED TVs as PQ gamma is still a very recent development. As with all other light sources, longevity goes down as brightness goes up on an OLED panel, which is obviously something that must also be taken into account. LG tells us that the HDR function on the new 4K OLED TVs will be added through a software update once they have decided exactly how to approach it."

http://www.flatpanelshd.com/focus.ph...&id=1421919922

But, " All of LG’s 2015 4K UHD TVs will have one or two clearly-labeled HDMI 2.0 ports with HDCP 2.2 compliance. None of the Ultra HD models (including OLEDs) landing during the first half of 2015 will feature HDR capability (and we’re told it’s not possible through a firmware update), though the company will seek to launch HDR-ready TVs at IFA in September when hopefully the standard has been ratified".

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/lguk-...1503044022.htm

They can't both be right.

“LG will have an HDR OLED solution available this year. We expect we’ll start to make a bit more noise about this around the time of the IFA technology show in September.” What’s more, Taylor claims that OLED HDR will be the priority for LG, ahead of HDR LCD."

http://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarch...third-quarter/

My guess is when the dust settles SMTE 2084 will be the winner in the HDR battle.

I have to say just like the Pioneer Elite and Kuro's plasmas were not for everyone the same goes with the OLED. Soon to be the Holy Grail of television the OLED is not going to be for everyone. I would love everyone to have one, but like luxury cars not everyone can get one.
I can't stress enough if you want to see this television find out who has them on display and see if you can pre order the OLED. There are computer monitors with television tuners inside them LCDs, then you have an OLED a real television.
Find out who has them and go see it for yourself! The 4k OLED is simply amazing!

I checked the LG and Sony authorized dealer lists. Value Electronics is listed as an authorized brick and mortar retailer for both, but is not listed as an authorized online retailer for either LG or Sony.

Why does V.E. need to be an online dealer? I live about 3,000 miles from V.E. and I purchased by phone and e-mail. I would rather buy and expensive TV from a brick and motor dealer.
