Default New Star Wars Film Being Written By Simon Kinberg

Quote:
Deadline reports that X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg is currently writing a script for a Star Wars film. This is in addition to the trilogy in the works from The Last Jedi writer and director Rian Johnson, as well as the series of films from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff

Unsure about this. Heard he's doing good for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but...

What next? A Joss Whedon directed SW movie?

Let's hope it doesn't entirely suck.

Another Star Wars film, unrelated to neither new trilogy? Must be a spin-off.

Give him the Boba Fett movie. That way I can ignore it for two reasons.

Was it ever really special in the past 25 years? It's been a known property to ***** itself out as much as it could in as many mediums that it could.

Very little of SW is actually good.

Saying that...

I can't say if this is good or bad. Co-writer of X3 and Trank's Fantastic Four. But he did work on DoFP and that was good. Actually.. looking at his writing credits... his movies suck.

I do hear good things from Phoenix but... that could all be bs too. So regardless, I'm cautious for anything this guy does.

EDIT: Wait... w h o r e can't be said here? Yet shit can? lol.

Is there like nobody in the A / A- bracket in Hollywood who's interested in writing and directing a Disney SW? Why are the constituents of the C+ / B- talent pool being consistently wooed for these recent plum projects? Easier to "mould" I suppose. The only recent announcement that maybe departs from this trend are the GoT show-runners.

It's disappointing if true, and further evidence of the idea I suggested a week or so ago, that creativity and quality are secondary - or even further down the list - concerns with these current batch of SW films. The plan to put forth a singular top-notch creative vision isn't there; if, however, it's stumbled upon through sheer force of luck, then I suppose it was meant by design all along. Of course, IMO.

I really like the X-Men movies, so I have no problem with this.

Just stop announcing new Star Wars movies already. Get a few in the can first.

I don't know. He has both very enjoyable and mediocre titles on his scenarist-list. I'm not going to expect the best or the worst immediately on this one.

And once again I'll ask to -please- let Joseph Kosinski direct a Star Wars movie. His action scenes are thrilling and his movies are visually stunning. With the right script, he would be my number one choice at this point to do something SW related.

All these writers getting attached to Star Wars but it's beginning to sound like they're just getting a collection of Spec Scripts to have a choice from going forward at this point. Hopefully pickings for the best ones.
