Default Star Wars: Episode 7. Yes or No???

Now that Disney has acquired Lucasfilm and are planning to make STAR WARS: EPISODE 7 for a 2015 release. I gotta ask, do you want an Episode 7 or not?

Yeah, go for it, can't be any worse than The Phantom Menace. Hey! I only have that in my BD collection because my wife bought me the Saga box set already!

Can i possibly stick my head in the noose and suggest a 'reigned in' Gore Verbinski be the first director on the list for the new film?

It needs to have Lucas involved, otherwise "no".

No harm in making it, imo. The worst that could happen is people hate it (and hate it people will by default anyway). The best is that we get more awesome Star Wars goodness.

Hell yes! Fresh director and fresh actors, bring it on.

John Woo is making it. White doves flying over young Yoda's head is going to be epic!

I'm looking forward to it more than I had anticipated. Though of course the choice of director will decide whether my hype for the film will escalate.

Absolutely not. Star Wars brand has been garbage ever since The Phantom Menace so I have very little hope it will be any good.

Only positive thing is that George Lucas won't be directing that movie. Maybe this change should have happend before the prequels.

I want it brought more in line with how the batman series changed. It's time to cater this series towards an adult audience imo!

I would like a theatrical movie to end the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series. They started the series with a theatrical movie, so why not end it with one as well?

Well, the story for the trilogy was "his" as well as early stage development and he will be the consultant during the scripting so he will able to change the films storyline if he pleases (and if it pleases the producers)

My short list would be - James Cameron, Peter Jackson, Christopher Nolan, Richard Donner and Joss Whedon.

This.

If it matures like Batman has, then it's very exciting.

It'd be great if Pixar could make that so.

OK but it's on Disney.....

So that throws out the window "maturing for adult audience" wishes

Sounds like Lucas kept it in a kid-friendly company because he wants kids to love star wars each generation as part of the legacy, because the imagination of kids is the only possible way Star wars ep1-3 was "magical" and comparable to the originals. In the eyes of young naaive gen Y kids.

He loves that magic component, knowing adults will buy the movies for their kids = guaranteed $$$ for the company. But I do believe at-heart Lucas made the prequels more for early teens than adults. It just works out nicely that merchandising goes hand in hand with Star Wars. (every character having merch, and it being kid-centric in delivery)

=====

I'm blown away by this deal, and optimistic Kathleen K will select a good director and writers to make the new star wars movies. It's annoying they are "continuing" the franchise. They should just reboot it since they claim off the bat there'll be a Star Wars movie every 2-3 years...

You just know they will reboot it after 7-9 are completed because going higher than 9 titles in a saga gets to the ridiculous.

...So why do those 3 attached-but-unattached movies at all? I say fix the issues with "film" continuity on 1-6 right now! I'd prefer a well planned out solution for casting a new franchise that handles actors ages, and potential for deaths during the saga well into account. (ie no people who have heart attacks)

9 movies (in a franchise reboot) would take up to 27 years to produce. So you really want to make sure you start now on a reboot schedule.

James Cameron will never do Star Wars. It's not his..

Nolan won't. You can tell he aint a hired gun either.

Donner - too old.

Leaving Jodd Whedon from that list.. who may do it if asked? Still doesn't feel right

You know I wouldn't rule out Frank Darabont! He has worked with Lucasfilm before doing writing. With less power from Lucas on the direction final say it might give Darabont more of a chance to impact.

=======

I'm confused by this poll? This deal confirms these films will happen. Disney wouldn't buy a property that wasn't planning movies to be coming out. This isn't tentative this proves they will be making the movies. No amount of public opinion could even influence the plans. (which links to stockholder anticipation besides the money deal itself)

This poll is already irrelevant beyond a chance to talk about cynicism or optimism over the future.

A better question would be what I've posed..

If they plan to reboot why not now? 7-9 is done by 2021 and then you assume they will reboot to continue doing "a star wars movie every 2-3 years"
