Default 'Red Five' - Potential Star Wars Spin-Off

Quote:
Third ‘Star Wars’ Spin Off Could Be About X-Wing Fighters or Luke Skywalker

An interesting Star Wars rumor has been circling this week that has a bit more weight than the rest. You see, a German website was in attendance at a Hasbro event detailing the future of their products. Hasbro, of course, makes Star Wars toys and one of the pieces of information at this event was reportedly the Star Wars release schedule for the rest of the decade. It revealed the first two spin-offs are those long rumored Boba Fett and Han Solo origin stories, but also that a third spin-off could be about X-Wing fighters. They referred to it as Red Five.

I know what you’re saying, this could all be made up. That’s true. But after it originated on the German site Star Wars Union, popular Star Wars news sites like Jedi News and Making Star Wars were asked to take it down. When that happens, there’s usually a ring of truth. (Or it’s just totally false, which is always a possibility too.)

Here’s the breakdown that was rumored to revealed by Hasbro:

2014: Rebels
2015: Episode VII
2016: Boba Fett
2017: Episode VIII
2018: Solo
2019: Episode IX
2020: Red Five
Now, up through 2019, this is all news we’ve heard before. Though, referring to the second spin-off film as just “Solo” doesn’t necessarily lock it in as Han only.

But Red Five. For those who may not know, Red Five was Luke’s call sign in A New Hope, being the fifth X-Wing fighter in a squadron code named “Red.” In Star Wars history, it’s referred to some other characters too.

A Red Five movie, released in 2020, is an interesting proposition. There are multiple options here. It could be about a young Luke Skywalker earning his stripes as a Rebel pilot between Episodes IV and V. It could also be about a new fighter pilot who inherits Luke’s legendary call sign in another era. Or, the fact it would be released after Episode IX could mean it has a whole new spin entirely. Almost certainly though, it would be a movie about X-Wing fighters going on missions. And that sounds absolutely amazing.

Also of note, Rebels is on this list. Of course it’s special in that it’s the first new Star Wars property coming out in the new canon but that also could suggest Red Five is a TV show. Just a last thought.

Is the news of a “Red Five” spinoff true because some Star Wars fan sites were asked to take it down? Who knows. But it’s a very cool idea no matter how you look at it.
Slashfilm

I feel like a we already saw Luke's story, so unless it's a film about the gap between Episode VI and Episode VII, or even IV and V, I'm not sure it's needed. It would be kind of weird to see another actor playing Young Luke though between Hamill playing the role. Maybe an animated series? That would make sense too. Still though, I'm just glad to get more Star Wars, and getting a chance to explore the universe more. But I'd certainly like to see them expand past just the characters we know.
