I hate to sound pessimistic, but I'll believe it when I see it, or at least when Disney themselves confirm it. The rumors have been going around ever since they bought everything from Lucas.

They'll cost a fair bit I'm guessing. I just recently acquired the OT on Blu ray.

If this is true it could only indicate the original versions will be screened as part of AMC theatres upcoming entire Star Wars movie marathon leading into The Force Awakens.

I really hope this is true. I knew there was a reason to hold off on buying the trilogy on digital/blu-ray.

Lol at the people that actually believe this.
JOHN LANDIS said the Theatrical cuts of Star Wars are being released. Murderer John Landis.
And some website says the Theatrical cuts are coming every year. Not sure why people suddenly believe it now.
Sites just want clicks.

Got to love these so called "journalists" passing their subjective movie preferences as fact. /not

It's third-hand information with no real specifics (on timescale or formats etc) but unless Landis got his facts mixed up I think it's a very encouraging report.

I have always thought it will happen at some point, regardless of whether this is that point. It's a huge pile of money waiting for Disney to pick it up. And Disney like money. Obstacles will be overcome, deals will be worked out, it's 'when' not 'if', as far as I am concerned.

+1. Unless there's an official press release from Lucasfilm, this is just another rumor. They may now be starting to restore the original OT for a release in 2017 (40th anniversary of the original), but even that's at least a year and a half away. Not holding my breath.

Why trust John Landis? What does he have to do with anything? Unless it's coming straight from Lucasfilm/Disney I refuse to get hyped just yet.

But I hope for a 4k remaster original trilogy set on blu ray.

I'll believe it when Disney officially announces it. There's no reason to get all excited yet, that article was pure speculation.

At this point they might as well just wait til 2017 and release it on BD/UHD. If there's any movie that will help sales of UHD take off, it's the Star Wars OT (especially if unaltered).

I wouldn't be surprised if we get the OT unaltered on Bluray now (or in the near future), and then a proper 4K remaster on UHD in 2020 or something, lol. Is it even possible for the OT to be released in non-upscaled 4K?

I don't see why not, as long as the original film elements are available to be scanned at 4K or 8K or whatever they want.

Disney likes money. It's coming at some point. Anyone been to Kohls or Target lately? There's so much Star Wars stuff in the store you'd think it was a Star Wars shop. To think they wouldn't cash in on re-release is more silly to me.

I'm not getting excited yet, I'll believe it when I'm standing in Best Buy with the movies in my hands.
