Default 37 years ago tonight...the Star Wars Holiday Special was on CBS.

For the uninformed, The Star Wars Holiday Special.

37 years ago this evening, about a half an hour from now, the monstrosity known as The Star Wars Holiday Special aired on CBS. All the main cast from the movie appeared, along with Bea Arthur, Harvey Korman, Jefferson Starship, and others. It was painful to watch as a seven year old. It's downright unbearable now as an adult.

The Holiday Special only exists to keep Attack Of The Clones from being the worst thing Star Wars related. Even the two Ewok specials are better.

At least it's pretty enjoyably bad. Sometimes during the Christmas season I get in the mood for MST3K and Rifftrax Christmas episodes/movies, and the Rifftrax commentary on this gives me some enjoyment.

Never saw this until about 12 years ago. It wasn't even so bad it's good, but so bad it's just plain bad.

Except for the animated segment that introduced Boba Fett. That's actually pretty cool.

Spot on.

Earlier this evening, before I posted the You Tube video, I said to myself, "you know, I've grown. I've matured. I've seen a lot of bad movies come out of Hollywood over the last few years. How bad, I mean truly bad, can the Holiday Special really be? Give it another look.

After about 45 seconds of watching those Wookies, I said, "nope, it's as bad as I remember."

The Boba Fett animation is the only redeeming element from this otherwise horribly bad concept.

I remember seeing this SW Holiday special as a young elementary school kid back in '78. I remember nothing about this, but that's definitely a good thing. I tried to watch it again recently, and couldn't get past the first several minutes - what an execrable P.O.S.

That being said, the animated Boba Fett segment is great. It's nice to have this included as a special feature on the Star Wars Saga Blu-ray set (2011).

I remember watching it as a seven year old with my family.

My brother and I were hungry for anything Star Wars.

I think The Phantom Menace was worse than ATOC.

Same here it was my most rented movie series from my Mom and Pop place, I think I wore their tapes out.

This was the non special editions as well as the Ewok Adventures.

I think IIRC I saw it at my friend's house because his older brother recorded it and It might as well had been that tape from The Ring, in fact I would have preferred it.

I'm really surprised that I didn't see the holiday special being that I was 5½ and obsessed with Star Wars at the time it aired..........guess I didn't miss much.
