Default Box Office Thread! - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Let’s get this party started! I’m gonna make an early guess of

Domestic opening weekend - 240-260 million
Final domestic total - 800-850 million
Final worldwide total - 1.4-1.5 billion

$250 million sounds good. Don't think there's a chance of beating Endgame... unless that trailer is about 27 kinds of awesome. C'mon, halftime!

Last Jedi made $620 million domestic, so RoS will definitely make at least $750 million...

I’ll guess $600 million domestic, but I think this is going to be a very much WOM dependent movie. I got my tickets just now, and while it did take three attempts to do, didn’t seem to be selling at the same level as Last Jedi or particularly Force Awakens (getting tickets to that was insane) were from the seats I saw.

So I do wonder if there is some “Star Wars fatigue”, and I think worst case it could perform like Rogue One did. However, if the general consensus is that it’s a worthy conclusion to the franchise, I think it might win over a lot of people on the fence and go well past $700 million.

270 million opening / 780 million total. Domestic, of course. Haven't got a clue about overseas.

$705 Million domestic total

This will do worse critically than TLJ but will be better liked by the more casual SW fans

It's success will depend on how well the film ties up the Skywalker Saga. If fans of the series find it a satisfying conclusion, there will be lots of repeat viewings and lots of money for the Mouse House. If the ending is divisive or unfulfilling we will get TLJ numbers.

I suspect $1.3 worldwide

it doesn’t come out for two months and it really doesn’t matter unless you’re a shareholder.

but sure, act like you own a part of disney and then pretend to act surprised that a movie that will $300 million on marketing will make money regardless of quality.

I think people do have a sense of ownership in Disney and SW, not in the legal or financial sense, but in terms of they being things that their fans helped build and feel passionately about, so, yeah, maybe that's why some people are obsessing about the performance of some movies.
