Whats a little background on your PS3? Did you change anything with your PS3 before this started to occur? Did it just happen out of nowhere?

I'm having a green light + yellow light issue and it won't boot. Any ideas? At first I thought the PS3 had died but after trying a few things, I'm thinking it might be the hard drive. Also, this is one of the original 60-gig PS3s.
Here's the background: Last night I was playing Motorstorm 2 and then noticed the time and thought the store should have been updated. So, I checked the store, downloaded a theme and started the Killzone 2 and HAWX demos downloading. Then I went back to Motorstorm 2 to export all the screenshots I had been taking. As soon as I clicked on the Gallery option, the PS3 froze. I turned it off/on and it came back up partially (saw the wave, heard the sound but didn't get the user/login area). Tried it again, same result. Tried resetting it. Same thing. Unplugged it and let it sit for a long while. Tried it again and this time, nothing came up. Just got a green and yellow light and no picture whatsoever. Looking up the YLOD stuff, it didn't seem quite the same. So, I decided to try one of the 60-gig drives from the PS3 that I had replaced due to it being defective. I just wanted to see what would happen. I also tried it without a hard drive to see what would happen (nothing happens in that case). With the defective drive though, surprisingly, I got the wave, sound and after a few moments, it said it couldn't start because the right hard drive wasn't found. (Edit: Actually, the first thing that came up after putting the defective drive in was the detected HDMI screen, then after doing that, the rest that I mentioned happened). So now I'm thinking that maybe it's just a hard drive issue instead of the PS3. Does anyone agree? In any case, what is so frustrating is that I was just thinking I needed to back up my drive since I hadn't done it in a while and had planned to do that later last night. Argh... Just as an update, it was the hard drive. I just bought another 250 Gig drive while picking up Killzone 2 and the PS3 is back up and running.
One surprising thing is that it must be saving information in firmware. After replacing the hard drive, it did a quick format and rebooted. The 2 users I had defined appeared and I was signed in to the network (so it saved all my wireless networking settings, etc.). |

I too have noticed that through formats it saves XMB settings, which is a good feature as it can be a hassle to reset them each time. |

I can't really recommend anymore troubleshooting for this issue as it seems like you have covered all of the bases. ![]() |

I updated the Known Issues Without a Fix with:
-When you turn on your PS3 without it a disc it thinks that there is already a disc inside. I currently am suffering from this issue as well, so if anyone has a solution to this, please post it. However I did post a work-around for this issue however. |
