kept the 500gb hard drive, but each hard drive is encrypted for that console, so you can't switch them back and forth... only way to do it is a backup, and then not everything switches over, because its locked only for the same console..

Well that sucks.

I think sony should let people keep their original HDD rather than send a another one.

I know you mentioned that before. But not everyone has the privilege of backing up their materials. Which is why I don't understand why sony won't let people keep the original HDD.

because when you put that HDD in any other PS3 it gets erased, as stated before if you have formatted a HDD on a PS3 and try to stick it in another it is rewritten for that console because of a protection lock on the PS3 system.

When I talked to them, they said they pretty much had to do it after the rampant game sharing..

So its a recent development then. It didn't make sense at first but now I see a good reason behind it.

Well its been around since the 1st PS3 was developed as a security measure, and they were going to find a way to help people out, then the game sharing became a problem and they stopped... Though they said they get alot of complaints, and that people should file ways to fix it with the support group. and you might see some development..

Even better news. Called Sony today, to see why it was such a quick turnaround. They supposedly fixed my old ps3, and are sending that same PS3 back to me!!! Please for the love of god be true!

Edit 1: and now I call to double make sure, and they don't know... Thanks Sony.. lol

Edit 2: Not the same PS3, but at least they gave me a new one..

Alright, here's the situation. Went to the Playstation Store about to download the Ratchet & Clank demo and all the of a sudden I'm starting to sparklies, blots and whatnot and my PS3 freezes. Naturally, I restarted it and everything started to seem okay and then it did it again. I may be corrupted. But haven't heard anything about anything such. Anyone know what could be the problem?

Video card is on the way out. Backup saves and de-activate accounts, its going to need to be repaired.

Well if it's the video card and I can't access the XMB can I simply switch hardrives with another PS3 and then back up files? And deactivate my account doesn't mean completely delete it where I would have to buy everything again?

i sent in my 60gb to sony to get fixed for YLOD!(received a refurbished 1) finally get a refurbished 1 back this past monday, couldn't play until Wednesday after i bought Fifa 10 & Uncharted 2 played for about an hour 1/2, then thursday i turn on ps3 and ps3 doesnt read or recognized any discs?

could be a firmware problem. I heard that after the newset update some ps3's are having problems reading disc's. Sounds like really bad timeing for you.
