Finally gave in and ordered a slim yesterday..

I don't really like the looks of it and it doesnt fit my stand

Anyway I heard this one enables my receiver to actually show DTS-HD and TrueHD is that true? If so, thats a plus

I put in a game just now, oblivion, and when it got to the zenimax logo it froze and went back to XMB. tried it again and the samething happened. i cleaned the disc with a cloth and now everything works fine.

This is the first time i've seen something like this, what does it mean?

I recently shot a few shot clips and they are all in QT format on a Canon 5D Mark II camera. Knowing the PS3 won't play QT, I changed the files to .mpeg, .mva, .mp4, mts, m2ts and .avi respectively, and the system either won't play or won't recognize any of them. So what format should I choose if I want to play those clips on my PS3? Thanks.

EDITED

And I just now found something regarding the M2TS format on the net. It specifically said both Sony and Canon employ a slightly different version of the same format. So far ONLY Vegas Pro v.9 and Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate can open, play and edit those two different formats. I guess if I want to play my clips on a PS3, I am out of luck? Or does anyone know a solution here?

Video clips? I have had success with mkv2vob Pretty sure it can manipulate multiple file types.

Yes, it can Bitstream those to HDMI receivers allowing the receiver to display DTS-HDMA and/or TrueHD, instead of PCM.

Aight got it Have the same receiver as you - too bad it only shows DTS-HD in small red letters instead of the big GAME/TV sign

Anyone know how to force a Blu-ray to always play in Dolby Digital? My receiver in my bedroom can only do Dolby Digital or 2.1 PCM (since its optical only), and pretty much every movie now plays DTS-HD, which makes me PCM... Dolby Digital sounds better than the PCM since at least DD is 5.1.

Thanks.

As far as I know the audio codec used by default is dictated by the blu-ray disc, not the player.

Eh, i found out if its DTS-HD, it only goes down to DTS 5.1 so I'll have to PCM it no matter what... but if its True HD, I'll get the Dolby Digital.. That sucks, guess I'll matrix it to make it sound like 5.1...

Question How long has your PS3 replacement laser lasted?

Hi--Tried to start a new thread for this but can't since I'm a noob here. I'd really like to see this as a poll in a new thread.

I would like to know how long the replacement lasers/diodes are lasting. So far the longest I have read about is ~7 months.

Please post how long your replacement has worked. And, if allowed here, post where you purchased the laser.

Thanks!

Chas

(I have a PS3 40GB (single laser) that stopped reading all disks after 13 months. I bought a new PS3 to replace it, but now I'd like to repair and use this old PS3 to play online games or LAN games with my kids.)

Got my PS3 back from Sony today. Man, it was a pain restoring the system even WITH a backup. Not counting lost saves (RB2, etc) I still had to redo all the categorizing of my videos, photos, etc and redownload every, reinstall all the game data for games I'm still playing, etc. Why can't Sony's backup at least store the categorizing info? What a PITA. Has anyone who received a refurb from Sony ever had it die on them? I really don't wanna go through this again...

Default bluray skipping error

Hi i have a wierd problem i have a new ps3 slim thing has been working like a beat lately. So i picked up lost season 5 and certain episodes it starts to skip and if i rewind or forward through it works fine and when it skips my ps3 is trying to read and it just freezes for a sec then it plays. if i restart the episode it works fine. Im just wondering if its firmware or hardware issue or bad disks. If anyone can help much appreciated.

Once I have time, I'll post the fix for on startup of the PS3 if you do not have a disc in it, it thinks it does and makes weird noises. Its a common issue after you have replaced the laser as you have just gotton a fingerprint on the disc sensor. I just want to have a picture associated with the fix before I post it.

I have a question:
So I got my slim, but I still haven't copied the save game data from my old 60GB.. I'm gonna do that tonight but I have a question: I have completed Modern Warfare 2 on my new slim, but I also have some save data on my old PS3 for that game.. The same goes for Fifa.. What happens when I try to copy those data to my new PS3? Will they be corrupted? Will the old Modern Warfare take over my completed data on my new? Or will nothing happen? What should I do?

Also - will it only copy saved data, or also games downloaded from PSN?

If my evening wasn't already going horribly, my PS3 YLOD again.

So right now I'm in the process of letting my CPU cool down from the reheating.
