Try Direct through to the tv like he said...

also try (a different HDMI port on the receiver if one exists)
or plug the receivers HDMI into a different port in the tv

and if all else fails try a different cable or the component/composite cables if you have them

Question

Hey guys. Just quick question.
Does any bluetooth keyboards and mouse work with PS3? And also you can play any games with keyboard and mouse right? Any suggestions on keyboard and mouses?

Unfortunately, some of the Onkyo receivers have been plagued with HDMI HDCP handshake issues. Handshake issues can cause HDMI connected devices, such as receivers, TVs, and PS3s to have trouble initializing everything, hence the delay.

Barring an HDMI cable switch fixing it, I think your Onkyo 606 needs to be repaired.

I replaced my 606 with a pioneer VSX-1020. Don't get me wrong, I love this budget receiver until it started acting up (not recognizing hdmi signal). I've read from avsforum.com that this is a common problem for 606

To the OP, when did you get this receiver? If its less than 2 years then I suggest you call Onkyo. They have a 2-yr warranty as long as you have the receipt. Unfortunately for me the hdmi problems started right after that and to make matters worse, I didnt keep my receipt and I bought it from Circuit City :-(

One of these days I will take it to a local service center but I'm afraid to find out how much it would cost to fix it.

The cable SD came on automatically...getting HD took that 15-25 minutes.

Verizon swapped out their cable box and that did nothing. But I have now cancelled my cable.

The HDMI board in your Onkyo 606 is going bad, it needs additional capacitors and a total replacement of the board itself, If your receiver is under 2 years old then it is covered under manufacturer warranty. I had this done on mine this summer and the unit runs better then ever, thankfully it was covered as I believe the HDMI board is somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 USD.

When you back up your PS3 data does it save the current firmware also or not? I just was wondering since i can't update to 3.56 and thought if i did a console data transfer from my friends PS3 if that would give me 3.56. Then id just copy my game saves back on. Also now i can't watch blu rays but it plays games. I had only 20min left of crank 2 then it froze. I was watching the movie bout 2hr ago. I don't know what is up with that. Any info would be great.

No, you are just backing up game saves or game data. Firmware is something else in this case. If you have difficulty downloading the new fw, why not try downloading it via your PC? Save it on a removable flash drive before transferring it to your PS3 for installation.

Not 100% sure but I think any bluetooth keyboard will work. I have a Rocketfish one from Best Buy. You can't play most games on PS3 with kb/mouse. Only a few support it (Unreal Tournament comes to mind). I use my bluetooth keyboard for text chat in a few games (LBP2).

Ok thanks. I've tried the usb drive thing. I been trying since thursday to install the update. It will download but it just keeps giving me error 8002F165 when it tries to install and says the data is corrupted. So i hope i can obtain 3.60 when it comes. I'm tight on $ at this point to be able to buy a 2nd ps3 or send this one in.

You can see a video of the fan modification on the web site.

My PS3 should arrive at the shop today or tomorrow for repair. I'll keep you posted on how the shop does and console performs when I get it back.
Alrighty, I received my PS3 back on Saturday, and it works really well so far. The fan modification works wonders for keeping the system cool. I played GT 5 for several hours, and the system never got warm. As soon as the PS3 turns on the fan turns on to what I'm guessing to be the medium-ish speed or so. By doing so, it doesn't allow the GPU to build up the heat it used to before the fan would engage.

The trade off is a bit more fan noise from the start. It wasn't really noticeable watching a blu-ray at normal viewing levels. However, it will be audible during quiet passages or with fairly low volume levels, depending on where your PS3 sits. I think it's a good trade off though to keep the PS3 from overheating and YLOD again.

Well my PS3 Slim is acting up. The Blue light in front is always staying on even while the console is off. When I shut off the machine it will beep a couple times, eject the disc and then shut down. Anyone seen this issue before? I tried doing a full restore and that was a no go.

That sucks, this is the first slim console I've heard of that's had hardware issues. Under warranty still?

Bad omen! Bad omen! We are not winning a title this year... I hope not... Seriously, so you've tried hard reboot and/or unplugged the whole thing and the problem still doesn't go away? Hmm... you might have no choice but to call SONY.

By the way, where the hell have you been? You know what I mean.

Well nevermind bout my system. Found out otherday that the database is corrupt. It was letting me play games and movies and now it wont play anything. I wish there was a option put on the PS3 to repair that kind of stuff, like rolling back firmware or something. I tried the things in safemode menu. This sucks.

I haven't tried it, but I thought you could rollback firmware by restoring the system?

Try searching online, I thought I heard about there being some sort of option for this...although I can't remember anything about it. Maybe it's called "rebuild database" or something like that?
