Its explained here https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-ga...cks-fixes.html

I'm not personally familiar with it (other than having it happen to me as far as the not powering on thing) it involves opening your PS3 (of course this void your warranty if you still have it) Read through and the experiened guys can help you out

So I think my PS3 slim is overheating... It keeps freezing on me. It first started with Modern Warfare 2 after about 2-3 hours of playing, now today started in Assassin's Creed 2 after 3-4 hours of playing.

Modern Warfare 2 is always freezing up on me. Don't know why but I highly doubt it's overheating. (Ps3 Fat)

doesn't explain the AC2 randomly freezing on me.

How often is it freezing up? Consistently after 2 hours? My PS3 freezes sometimes (not very often), but not because of any hardware problems.

in that time frame, and if I retry the game it will refreeze within 15 minutes. I turn off the ps3 come back later and its fine...

Hmm, that doesn't sound too good. Maybe you should ask on a PS3 specific forum to see if anyone else has had slim's overheating?

Gonna call Sony tomorrow. Doing a backup right now, and will run a PS3 System reboot.

Australia PS3 is DEAD

Today is a sad day for me. I have encounted the YLOD. Unfortunately I wasn't able to backup my HDD either so I am about to loose everything. This is the second one I have had in 3 years. Thank goodness I took out an extended warrenty (5 years). Have contacted Sony and sent it in. They quoted a possible 3 weeks before I get one back.

From what I heard it should be more like a week once you put your PS3 into the box and send it off. Here's hoping you get your own system back.

They said it would a refurbished one. Here's hoping the 3rd one will last longer than the first 2.

<SIGH>....Well, after 6 RRoDs on my 360, my phat 60GB gave up the ghost on Saturday... I'm in the process of tearing it down to try the re-flow fix for the YLoD. Hopefully tonight I can get it done and smoke check it, and hopefully it'll work. What sux is I ONLY use it for watching movies, so I wouldn't think it would get all that hot. And it's sitting in the open free to breathe. Oh well...what sux is Sony won't fix it on their own dime. One good thing about M$, they manned up and fixed for free (all 8 times - 6 as I said were for RRoD) their poor design. Otherwise, I guess it'll be decision time as to get another one or just get a normal BD player. At least it has lasted about 3 years...though I was hoping it would go longer.

And if it doesn't work, I still gotta figure out how to get my Star Trek TOS Season 2 Disc 6 out...
