There a couple different ways I think to try to eject your disc ones your PS3 when it gets the YLOD but I tried most of them with no success and still have my Darksiders game stuck inside. I will just have to take apart my PS3 and get it out. But MGS4 stuck in there, that sucks.

i brought it upstairs where i have my slim and it connected to PSN just fine. then i took it back downstairs and it still can't obtain an IP address. i moved it foward on the shelf about 2 inches and it all of a sudden signed in. how bizarre. so it clearly was a proximity issue, but 2 inches? and my router and PS3 have been in the exact same spot communicating in harmony for a very long time...it was just within the last week or so it started acting up. so, problem solved...for now.

I' am having the same problem as well. Apparently though, here is the (old) solution for it.

1. Do a hard shut off by holding down the power button.
2. Then turn the system off from the back.
3. Unplug the power cable.
4. Turn off your modem and router (if you have one).
5. Then turn the modem back on and let it sync up, then the router (if you have one) and let it sync up with the modem.
6. Then plug the power cord back into the PS3.
7. Flip the power switch back ON on the back of it.
8. Then turn the system on.

After that, it should work.

Quick question for anyone. I'm trading in my fat for a slim and was wondering how exactly I transfer my account to the new console?
I've got all my game save data on a usb stick, but I was wondering if someone could give me the basic outline or run through about the synching of the new system to my user account and id?
Unfortunately I wont be able to do a data transfer from one console to another side by side.

Basically when you first turn on your new slim you'll need to make a new system account (unless you have a backup of your old fat). Then, log in with your new system account and go to the "Network" tab of the XMB and select -> "Sign up for Playstation Network". There will be an option to create a new PSN account, or to link an existing account. Hit "Link existing account" (I don't know the exact wording for it) and enter your PSN email address/password that you normally use (same as it was on your fat model).
To get your save files off your thumb drive, put it in and go to the "Game" tab of the XMB. Then just hit on the files and select copy (if you have a backup the restore will do this part).

Note: Remember to Deactivate your old fat PS3 if you're getting rid of it...you don't want it linked to your PSN account at all. Deactivation is done through "Account Management" in the network tab of the XMB on your fat PS3. After deactivating, format the hard drive.

Default I need help fixing my PS3.

It started last night. When I turn on my ps3 the picture is snowy and it flashes and jumps around, etc. I guess this is the best I can say to explain it.

What could the problem be? Any help would be great.

the first thing I would do is check the connections between the PS3 and the TV or receiver which ever the case may be

this is were it gets strange. While I am on my ps3 dashboard. It flickers, goes black, comes back etc. But when I put in a movie and it loads(goes to the disclaimer thing) It works perfect. I go to watch a little of the movie. It works perfect. But as soon as I go to my dashboard. It starts all over again.

Again I had no problems with my ps3 before last night. It wasnt like I unplugged the HDMI cord and put it in wrong, etc. It was never touched. Then last night I turned it on and thats when the trouble started.

If you play a game/watch a movie then go back to the xmb (dashboard is for the 360 ) does it start again (without turning the TV off in between)? I have an older LCD tv that does something similar to what you describe with the picture jumping around/snowy while the TV first warms up, after a couple minutes it works fine again. Good luck!

What can I do to fix it then. Because it was fine a week ago but now it does this.

EDIT: I found out that the deep black output(HDMI) was turned on. I turned it off and now its back to normal. I dont know how it got turned on to begin with.

Default PS3 Died...need help with HDD and BR inside

While watching Starship Troopers last night my beloved 60GB PS3 passed on. The system will turn on for a breif second before shutting down and flashing red light.

Does anyone know how I can get the Disc out of the system?

I have a 500GB HDD installed and havent backed up the system in over 2 years...stupid me ... Is there any way to atleast get the saved data of the HDD disc (there is no way to back up the data from the system menu as the system will not turn on). I know once I remove and insert the HDD in a new PS3 the data will be erased.

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

The ONLY way to save the stuff on the HDD is to do a full reflow (which isn't hard, I did one on my 60gb).

If you send it to Sony they're going to wipe it (also, you'd need to put the 60gb hdd in before you ship it to them.) They'll give you the disc back.

But seeing that you have a 60gb a reflow seems like the best solution since you're already out of warranty and there's a 90% chance (my own statistic based on reading) that the reflow will fix your YLOD.

There's a full video walk-through on youtube...

you can open up the system to remove both the HD and movie as far as recovering anything present on the HD you can buy an External Enclosure and transfer any data to your computer.

It is red and flashing. It looks like the standby light but flashes. The I am watching one of the vids any way out of curiousity and seems a bit more trouble then I feel like dealing with.
