After 11 days, the repair shop called and informed me my PS3 60Gb fatty has been fixed, yay! I will likely pick it up tomorrow and test it out.

@ Uxi

It looks like that shop would first attempt to reflow the thing, and if things don't work they will then try reballing it. Plus, they claim they would hold each repaired console and let it run for a "certain hours" just to make sure everything works before they even call the customer for pick up.

All the icons or just the disc icon (for a game or movie)? I seem to remember this happening to me when my BD Drive (laser) died on my 60GB system. Can't remember for sure though.

Most important thing to measure how good they are is to see how long they warranty their work for. Alot of the reball guys will say a year or so. If it's less than 6 months, you're probaby better off DIY, since that's all you'll last anyway.

Good luck!

Back up your stuff when you get your consoles back boys, these reflows only last for so long.

Ok, got my fatty back and it works fine... so far.

Yeah, the first thing I did after I hooked it back was to back up all my PS2 saves! I've always been good with backing up my PS3 related saves, but not those older PS2 ones. There are a few very tough, time consuming PS2 saves that I wouldn't want to lose! Replaying GTA: SA for a 100% would've been a beeyatch!

All in all, the guy said one of the ICs was burned and he replaced it and did not much else. The warranty is good for only a month, but that's how things are typically done here in Hong Kong.

A month was all Sony gave me after I sent it in to them

Good to hear you got it back and running.

What?! Sony only gives a month too?! Geez... thought they would have give at least 3 months. Guess either they are being cheap, or they don't even trust themselves.

Sony guarantees their repairs for 90 day from the date you get your PS3 back.

Ya sorry I should have specified, Sony gave me a month warranty after fixing my PS3 for free even though it was out of warranty (my first PS3 died 2 days after the 1 year man. warranty).

I sent my 60 GB PS3 to http://www.sudburymods.com . The reason I sent it to them, is because they offer a lifetime guarantee on their work, and they also include a fan modification with the repair in order to keep the running temps down significantly. You can see a video of the fan modification on the web site.

My PS3 should arrive at the shop today or tomorrow for repair. I'll keep you posted on how the shop does and console performs when I get it back.

I got an e-mail from the shop letting me know they received my PS3 today. They'll let me know when it is ready to ship.

A good start... as for mine, it works more or less perfectly... by saying "more or less", the controller acted kind of weird (like certain commands during a game would popped up when I didn't select them etc) at first if not hooked up to the PS3 via the usb cable. Then the problem magically went away when I returned to play again a day later.

Alrighty! I received word yesterday that my PS3 was fixed and tested, and I received the tracking number today. Total was $80 as originally quoted, and that included the modified fan.

As soon as I get it back, I'm backing everything up before I dive back into my Christmas games and blu-ray films. I can't wait!

Default Plz Help: PS3 VERY slow start up

First off, my apologies if this does not belong here, please move as needed.

I hope someone out there can assist me. When I turn on my TV, cable box, receiver and PS3, it takes between 15-20 minutes for the PS3 to actually show up on my TV--no picture, no sound--and I just can't figure out why! It has done this continually for over a year, every time. I have to just turn on the TV, watch it a while then the PS3 becomes available later.

I thought it was my HD cable service (Verizon) but I just disconnected my cable box and the same problem persists.

I have a Visio TV connected HDMI to my receiver and my receiver HDMI to my PS3.

Please tell me this isn't a normal thing. I don't think it used to do that but, to be honest, it has been going on so long that it just seems par for the course.

TIA

Also, if you have more than one hdmi cord, which i see that you do, try them both hooking up the ps3 directly to the tv, so you can rule out any bad cables

TIA
Try hooking up the ps3 directly to your tv through hdmi, and see what happens, if it works instantly, theres a problem with your receiver.

Does the cable come on instantly or does that take awhile too?
