500c, 30 seconds on each chip twice. Some of mine have lasted 3 months so far, are you not using flux?

I did it twice! It shouldn't go to YLOD instantly if it was a reflow problem, it would die after a few mins. Instant YLOD after TWO reflows must mean there's something else wrong.

I have had my PS3 Slim for about a year now. I've been loving it. It loads Blu-Rays very quickly and streams my Netflix perfectly. However, today I did a firmware update and now I'm having problems.
On the main screen and all of the menus, I get snow, flicker, and the picture goes in and out. I thought it was the HDMI cable or the receiver/TV. I switched HDMI cables, that didn't fix it. I tried 3 different TV's/receivers...still didn't work. However, it works perfectly with Blu-Rays and I don't get any problems with that. Just Netflix streaming and on all of the menus (including the main screen). I went into the 'Display Settings' and changed the video output to 1080i and what do you know?!? It works flawlessly! It only gives me these video issues with a 1080P signal. Why is that? How do I fix this? I e-mailed Sony, but I want to see if there's something anyone on here knows about this. It's strange since it works perfectly until I did this firmware update, then I got these problems. Any help would be very much appreciated. |

Don't know how much it would help, but double check your internet connection. Whenever you have something like those facebook games going, or downloading, it will slow down anything related to it. Although your XMB shouldn't be effected by that, it's still a possibility.

My 60gb's menus and main screen has been doing that too since the last software update, I've also read similar reports (on this website and others) of it happening to other people as well since the last update. I know its a bit annoying, but I don't think it's anything much to worry about, just wait for the next firmware update which hopefully will fix the issue, if not then start to worry.

It's just disappointing since I was going to stream a movie on Netflix for the family and we're all about to watch it and then the whole screen is full of static and such. Any idea when the next firmware update will be? |

http://www.sudburymods.com sells a modified PS3 fan that you can install on your own. When my launch day PS3 finally gave me the YLOD at the end of December, I had them reflow it and install the fan mod. It has been running cool ever since, and I haven't had a problem, even with marathon gaming sessions. If you don't allow the PS3 to overheat, it won't YLOD. I would recommend looking into it. If you have the shop perform the YLOD repair, they offer a lifetime guarantee. |

What do you mean by a modified fan? A new fan? an air vent? |

Got a question, hopefully some techies or gurus can give me some info.
Two days ago, I had been playing for around 5 or 6 hours when my console froze playing GT5. After reset, it played fine for about an hour and a half and froze again. At that point I decided not to play and put it You Don't Know Jack. The console froze twice on that game, both within about 5 minutes. So I turned it off and let it set overnight. Yesterday I had no problems. Today it had been on for around 7 hours when it froze again on GT5 and after reset it wouldn't play the GT5 disc and wouldn't recognize any blu-ray movies at all. It set for an hour and when I put GT5 in again it worked. So, I know the discs are fine and there are no problems with those. Is the blu-ray drive failing? Or is it a problem of running the unit too long? Or a combination of both? I haven't tried an blu-ray movies after getting GT5 up again, will try later. If it's simply running it too long that's fine, I can cut times down but I'm worried the drive/laser is having problems. |

I don't personally know too much but I would really suggest cutting down your playtime. Playing for 7 hours at a time is not such a good idea. I game a lot and it's about the only thing I do sadly but I always take a break every 2 or 3 hours to give my PS3 a break.

Since that post, GT5 has failed to load 3 out of 4 times, Ridge Racer 7 has frozen after one race, 12 Monkeys movie has failed to load, 16 Blocks started but froze after a few minutes. However, Cars on DVD worked fine. GT5 is running now, but I'm sure it will freeze within an hour. I'll leave it off most of the night and probably tomorrow and if problems persist after that, well, I'll assume the worst unless some tech-savvy person here can convince me otherwise. Edit: Yup, called that one. Last edited by Trace17; 03-10-2011 at 02:25 AM. |

The fan mod is only $20 and would be worth a shot. I was also looking into the Whisper fan that's available on Amazon but I've read mixed reviews about it. Vic, when you do a re-flow, you need to hover over the CPU/GPU for a couple of minutes each. 30 seconds won't do anything. I usually do a re-flow for about five minutes. So I was starting up Moonraker again and my PS3 suddenly just turned itself off. Then I tried to turn it back on and I saw a YLOD then it turned itself off again. Then I turned it on to eject the disc and before I clicked it off again a lot of dust blew out the back of it. Betting it's busted but hoping not.

I think my warranty is already expired. How long is the warranty?
I got a range extender for my Internet and WOW, what a difference! The PS3 is so much faster now. However, after reseting video and audio settings (as instructed by their support) and it didn't work. Put to default settings, still didn't work. I'm calling them now (on hold) to get this problem fixed once and for all. |
