Check out the video at http://www.sudburymods.com . They do repairs as well as sell the fan mod separately, which you can see in the video.
Thanks for the info. Anyone here ever use them? I like that they have a lifetime warranty...

I'm a little confused about something. I plan on getting a Slim soon (when i have free Playstation Plus and can take advantage of cloud storage) since i've fixed my 60GB twice now, but i'm also very much into trophies. I've already put my copyable game saves on to a USB, but what happens when i paste these saves on the new Slim? I'd sign on to my PSN ID before i paste them so it's still my account, but would the Slim model automatically reward me the trophies i already have so i can continue for a platinum? Would i install a game first before pasting the game saves? I suppose i can just use the cloud storage for all of it, but i'm still wondering if the trophies i already have will unlock on the new Slim.

Your trophies are attached to your PSN ID. Do a sync on your current 60GB model to make sure all your trophies make their way online, then when you buy a slim do another sync and it'll download all your trophies. It's not tied to game saves at all.

Oh i see! I always thought the sync only put the trophies from my system to the online server, but on a new Slim the sync would use the online server to update the list on the Slim's system. Thanks!

I had my PS3 reflowed by them at the beginning of January, and their reflow includes installation of the modified fan. So far, it has performed flawlessly. If you're more of the DIY type, you can also buy the modified fan separately.

I have reflowed my laptop before, but I didn't want to risk overcooking my PS3's GPU. That is why I had Sudburymods do it. They were really nice and professional to work with.

I can now play my PS3 for hours at a stretch, and it never gets warm. The tradeoff is having the fan run at a constant speed from the start, so it is louder than a stock PS3 before it warms up. The fan now constantly runs at what is probably the 3rd fan speed, but it's worth it.

Sucks they are in cananda. Might have to give the DIY install a go, not sure if I want to send it in to Sony again.

Thanks for all that information. I just bought a dedicated blu-ray player for movies and streaming (Panny BDT210), so if I get my PS3 fixed, it would be for gaming only, and I doubt the louder fan sound would bug me then.

Thanks a ton, grills, for all the info!

I feel for you Biz. Actually I just picked up mine from the shop for the second time just now. Like I've mentioned before, I am just going ride it until it dies and not going to repair it again.

It's too bad this shop is in Hong Kong, or else I would recommend these guys to you. They charged me $60 for the first repair. Since I am a returning customer, they gave me a huge discount this time, and only charged me $35!!

I find it kind peculiar that launch models (like yours and mine) are getting the YLOD at the same time.

Daaaamn! lol, Yeah you've had a nice long time with it alright. I'm going to buy a Slim very soon so when my 60GB dies for the third time i won't get it fixed.

After reading some things on the internet and talking to a friend, i keep hearing conflicting reports when it comes to the YLOD on Fats vs Slims. Is it true that Slims are less susceptible to it since they use less energy or the same as Fats since internally there's less space for heat movement and that all in all it has to do with the amount of usage?

Slims are less susceptible I believe. Probably a mix of less heat produced and better design.

So does this warrant purchasing a Slim model if my 60GB has died twice already? lol I'm on the fence now if it's worth it or not.

When my Madden 11 got cracked at the hub, I traded my 60gb PS3 in at GameStop, got like $125 credit. I wasn't taking a chance that the console somehow cracked it. So it depends on how much you have invested in PS3 games because you can now get a cheaper BD player.

Default 60gb Fat PS3 problems

I recently bought a 60gb PS3 from some one for my parents to use as a media player. I was told that the PS3 works fine, but when you put in a game, the screen goes green, but you can use the XMB etc.

I brought the PS3 home, connected it up and the screen just came up like a Matrix screen, but it was black and white. There's a few video's on YouTube about it.

I did a little research and decided to take out the hard drive and format it into FAT32 (Not using quick format), as the PS3 turned on but there was just a black screen (Using HDMI and Composite on two different TV's).

When I formatted the hard drive and put it back into the PS3 and turned it on, the screen appeared and said that the HDD needs to be formatted and I was over the moon, as I assumed that'd be it fixed. It went through, then said it needed to reboot the PS3.

When it did that, black screen again, so I'm stuck on things to try/do now. Any ideas?
