Wait wait wait! So Mike, you can use a vaccum to get the dust out without even opening the PS3?

What do you just suck it out the top like here?:

Correct! Also you can run an attachment along the side vents as well.

Now will this get all the dust out? More than likely no. However its the safest way to get dust out without opening your PS3.

Though the top part won't do much as the Blu-ray disc drive is pretty much blocking that vent, do the lower one.

you new ps3 owners have it so easy to open yours.. im pretty sure my BC 60gig doesnt have a rubber tab to just pop the top off like pringles

Lol getting that rubber tab off for the first time is more difficult than I led on to in my video.

Also, all models of the PS3 have it.

idk mike, ive looked mine up and down several times.. ill check again when i go home.. id like to blow all the dust out and off of my ps3...

HAH could you imagine.. well ive have mine for close to 2 years now, but i have a 3 yr warranty with target.. if i open it does it void targets? not to mention i manged to strip every screw when i upgraded my hard drive, so the cage just sits in there lol

Thats something you would need to contact Target about, but my guess is yes it would void it if you remove the sticker.

Though upgrading your hard drive doesn't void the Sony warranty, but it may void Target's.

thats not an issue the drive, if it ever broke id throw the original drive in and buy 4 new screws so it looks right =P

Not everyone keeps the original drive.

Though right now my replaced drive is sitting in an external enclosure serving as a nice coaster on my coffee table waiting to be used for other than menial labor.

ummmm, leeeetle bit of a problem.

Opened up the PS3 lastnight just for the hell of it (wel, actually to check for dust).
I've had an issue since I bought it where I'd get green sparklies, or occasionally an entirely green screen.
Not sure if it was due to a rubbish HDMI-DVi cable or a graphics card issue... and my reluctance to hand it in within the 1 year warranty (before March 2008) means that I'm probably stuck with it now. My fault.

Anyway, aside from hoping the thing still works, I'm trying to put the top cover back on and the little metal tab and screw that you need to use an Alan key on (or a screw driver and some brute force

) seems to be creating an issue.

I can't get the cover to slide on perfectly flush with the rest of the unit anymore! it seems to be between 1 - 2 mm off due to the thickness of the metal, but when I remove it and just slide it on it fits perfectly flush... wth am I doing wrong?

First, did dusting your PS3 fix the green screen issue? It does in fact sound like a connection issue and I recommend trying a different cable (even if its not HDMI) to see if you still get that problem.

Now for the top piece, before you can screw back in the screw you need to have the top part slide perfect in place.

Do you have the top half of the PS3 securely screwed in with all the screws screwed back in place?

Okay, so the tab is as above, and the result is as above (not flush). The screws are all in and pretty secure.
It only seems flush when I remove the metal tab.

I checked my PS3 and it doesn't have that tab.

Then again I leave my security screw out and haven't tried to screw it back on as I haven't seen the point to.
