You only reflowed once. I had to do it five times now. But so far this one seems to take. Better than the second through fourth times.

Latest attempt was to drench the area you want to reflow with no-clean isopropyl alcohol-based liquid flux (the liquid feels cold on the skin if you touch it) as well as do a 15-15, 30-30 x 3, 15-15 (seconds per chip) reflow at 400 Celcius. I also added three 5cm fans near the PS3 to help move the heat.

I've used mine this week more than I've had done in the last two months.

Reflowed the sucker and it fired up immediately. This time i really gave it a good heating, and i put just a little less thermal paste this time as well. Ive been playing uncharted 2 beta on it for well over an hour and the fan hasnt even hit yet. I really heated the chips up well this time, much more then my previous attempt, so i hope this is it.

I found the spring and took pics, thanks!

Not only that I replaced the laser and now it plays all Blu-ray discs!

Alright, I noticed that there was a difference in the new laser the old one. Where the actual laser lense is, it has a green tint to it. However, with the new laser it has a light green glow to it, kind of like Cloud's eyes in FFVII. Its not noticable unless you compare it to bad laser.

So I guess thats one of the signs your laser is dying if it no longer has a bright green glow to it. However I cannot say 100% that my original laser had a green glow to it to begin with.

I'll be updating my guide with new pics with the spring soon thanks to kagulo for pointing it to out me. Fortunately I kept my original laser, lol.

When mine died, I had a replacement in just over a week, IIRC. They shipped me a new (refurbed) one out as soon as they received mine. Fortunately I didn't have a disk stuck in it tough. I suggest you call their customer support line and find out what you need to do to ensure you get your disk back.

My 60gb had a game in it when it died. The paperwork that I filled out and sent back with the unit had a section asking what media, if any, was in the unit. So I identified the game, and it was shipped along with the replacement PS3 in a paper sleeve.

Mine didn't die but it couldn't load discs of any type. The sevice Sony provided was great except the person taking my info messed up my address. Other than that I got my PS3 pretty quick within a week.

Do you just need help with getting the Blu-ray out of the disk drive or is the PS3 not turning on?

'tis a sad day when a PS3 dies. Thankfully they are not plagued by the same mortality rate as crap-box 360s. But they do seem to be dying at an ever-alarming rate.
hopefully you did not have the 60gb launch model. if so, say goodbye to all those nice features, such as ps2/ps1 backwards compatablity and SACD playback, b/c from what I've read you get a newer refurb model to replace it. Which in my mind is not right, we paid for all those features back when you had to shell out $600 for a PS3.

ps3 turns on just fine, the blu ray drive sounds like it is going to explode, very loud (think back to the days of 3.5" floppy disks, that's what it sounds like), it will not eject the blu that is in there either.

from the time I reported my PS3 issue til the time I got it back ... 7 days, exactly. Unlike other people we know, with their 3 weeks crap.
