Crap, wasn't thinking of that. Guess I shouldn't waste my time fixing my YLOD and then sending it in if odds are going to be I'll get a different one that my backup won't work on anyways. Argh. What a PITA.

Guess I'll definitely wait for a Slim, since doesn't appear to be any chance of getting a decent old school bundle that won't be rapage in a month. Maybe I won't send in my 60 at all and will just try a YLOD repair. Guess I could save the $150 or maybe get the parts I need to make a Blu-ray laser pointer.

It's a flaw in the send off and fix programme though, if Sony create a backup option that only works with a specific console, they have to be sure you get that one back OR it is configured to appear to be the same one.

Seriously, the ps3 sucks hardware wise. My brothers 40 gig has been having the fan go into overdrive mode really fast for the past 2 weeks even with the a/c on in the house. So he brought it over today, and i said i'd re-do the thermal paste on it so it wouldnt get hot so fast anymore. I re-did everything, put it back together..... and YLOD. Mind you it was playing blu-ray movies 10 minutes before he brought it over to me. So i took it apart and re-did the process 5 times and it would YLOD each and every time. I was literally blown away at how shoddy this crap is. Once a PS3 breaks, sell it as soon as possible and never look back. I am thinking that sony may end up doing what microsoft did at some point, this YLOD crap is out of control.

What I read from that is that it didn't have YLOD until you took it apart

Any evidence with reliable numbers that hardware failure is out of control or are we just blowing off steam?

It does seem to be an inordinate amount of increases, especially on the official boards. Ironically enough, my Xenon 360 is still running, but that's mostly because I never use it.

I am on my 5th or 6th 360 and tell everyone how unreliable they are every chance i get. Its ridiculous that people are just brushing off this YLOD thing as if its no big deal, it IS a big deal. YLOD happens when there is ANYTHING wrong with the system. The problem is the PS3 doesnt tell you what is wrong, it boots, if there is any fault what so ever, YLOD and thats it. FYI, ive taken apart many PS3s and re-did the thermal paste to fix the fan coming on, and ive never had an issue till now just by taking it apart and putting it back together.

Also, ive had my own 80 gig YLOD on me and i couldnt bring it back to life, among a lot of my friends also suffering the same issue. In fact, 3 of my familys (im talking cousins, uncles, etc) PS3s out 6 have had blu-ray laser failures. Thats not really encouraging. I just fixed my buddies laser by getting one off of ebay for him this last week. I had to re-do my own as well, and again, my own replies are in this very thread from earlier.

I know we're all pro-sony, look at my freakin post history. But this is seriously going from bad to worse.

Exclamation My PS3 Just Overheated

My PS3 just overheated last night. I turn it on, it blinks this yellow light and beeps a few times and it turns off blinking red light. Tried it again this morning and it's the same.

The warranty is long expired now, it's been 2 years since I've bought it. What do I do?

Either risk fixing it yourself or just send it to Sony and let them handle it. But if you want to do it yourself I won't stop you but Marine Mike was nice enough to post this https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s+tricks+fixes

I think that when it overheats, it just shuts itself off until the temp cools down inside. If you are still having the blinking lights this morning, you probably have something else going on as well It sucks, but I'd probably just send it to Sony.

Welcome to my world, the exact same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago (during Wipeout)

I'm just going to buy a slim when it's released. Then see if I can get someone to fix my 60gb machine so I can rescue my saves. If nobody else can do it I may even try myself. Doesn't work now so I can't make it any worse.

Don't want to pay £150 for a refurb from Sony because I'll still lose my saves (have to put original drive back in).

Ok, thanks! I'll give it a look. If it looks too complicated I'll send it in.

Yeah, it's still not working. The AC was on in our house the whole night so it was freezing this morning but it's still not working.

If I send it in they will delete my saves? Are you sure?

Yeah I believe they reformat the HDD and clean it out or just send you another refurb 60GB(happened to me 13 months ago). But I'm willing to bet you can start playing again in just about a week or maybe not even a week because they are super fast with their shipping. But this is why people always say back up all of your game saves(that's what I did and put them on my PSP memory stick and it works like a charm).

I would but Ihave nothing to back up my saves to. All I have is a 1GB flash drive and I don't think that's enough.

Fixing this YLOD sounds kind of complicated. I'm going to send Marine Mike a PM.

Ah, I should have backed it all up. Yeah, I'll ask Mike.
