It doesn't seem too bad. i was going to fix mine myself, but watching the video gave me second thoughts. taking it apart and reflowing looks pretty easy, its just putting it back together(correctly) that has me worried.

Just a question, because I have a 60gb too, how long was it previously "On" before this happened? How long was your PS3 playing games or watching dvd's/Blu-Rays/or simply just on? Estimate if you can.
Was it in a very tight space, with miminum air circulation, was it next to a heat source? |

I am pretty sure the manual suggests you keep the original HDD to send it in. Not certain though, but my 60GB HDD is sitting neatly wrapped up on a shelf just in case.

![]() So far that guy is very trustworthy and though not 100% fix rate, but doesn't fully charge you if it doesn't work. |

I've got 2 60GB launch machines. A bit of compressed air to blow out the dust and its good as new. Although my USA machine is a bit louder than my UK one.
I don't even have aircon in my house, just the window. I have 150+ blu rays so they both get a good work out. Most problems with PS3's are user error or lack of looking after them imo. I've not seen a dead PS3 yet. |

It's possible if you send it to them without the drive they'll send one back without one, then just put yours back in (which will no doubt be formatted once you do). My 60gb has been re-housed and is now a portable usb drive.

My PS3 has enough space on the back and the side ventilation, it's been there for two years so it's hard to say what caused this. It is however next to an AV receiver which I bought about 3 months ago. I'm going to vacuum out the dust near the vents and see if it does anything. If everything else fails I will send it to this guy. Does he send you a box like Sony, although I doubt he does, or do you send it in the original PS3 box? |

I don't know why I came in here but the hypochondriac in me is now worried about my own PS3. It may just be me but lately, my PS3 has sounded a little hot. I've had it for 2 and a half years. Should I be performing some regularly scheduled maintenance on it or what?
