Sweet.. I haven't touched my first PS3 (Original 20GB with SACD ability..I think I put in a 160gb HDD as well) in ages in hopes of an easy solution. I didn't want to drop $150 (USD for only a 90 day warranty. Maybe I'll give it a shot so I'll have two PS3's.

Which video did you use?

that's really cool. Me on the other hand, I just bought a PS3 slim instead of bothering to fix my old one!

I'll be doing the same if mine YLODs. I've put too much time and energy into my current one to bother fixing it anymore.

My nephew somehow had inserted some kind of syrup in the slots were the control buttons reside. I saw the YouTube video in which the guy takes the controller apart and pouts it back again. I though, what the heck let me open this baby and clean it. Well, after 4 - 5 of trying to put it back together, I had enough. In the garbage it went and ordered a new one.

Nice job, this really raises an issue as well. Sony should offer a free fix or replacement for the bricked PS3s, especially with the console wars being as intense as they have been with this generation. Gotta hand it to Microsoft in that regard, sure their 360s red ring waaaaaaayyy too often, but at least they take responsibility for them. Sony needs to smarten up, like yesterday!

If you buy an extended warranty from the retail store and it breaks , i'm assuming they just give you store credit or another PS3 right? They won't have it shipped out for you to have it fixed, or?

What about money back considering there is a price drop in effect and mine has some PS2 backup , 2 USB ports, and memory card reader.

Anybody?

They will give you a new one, and usually money back... it depends on store and who's working that day if you get the extra money as well..

nope, i did it just like the video. Cleaned it, heated it, than put the compound in,

Sony is apparently sending me a new PS3 for my old broken one... I guess yay, but I lost all my game saves it appears, unless my backup works on the new 20gb... Still lost all my damn rock band songs... grrrr

Oh, and FYI, there were alot of stripped screws in that PS3 and fresh compound on it, so they should have been able to tell it was tampered with...

Couldn't you keep your old hard drive. Or were you supposed to send it to sony with the console?
