Just picked up my new 250 gig Slim today - we'll see how annoying it is to reset everything back up. I think I have my passwords, etc.

Hopefully I'll be back up and running (online) by tomorrow. I should be back to watching movies and playing games offline easily tonight.

I have a adaptor for the ps3 for harmony remotes. It was working fine but now my ps3 is not recognizing the remote. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it.

Sure, just resynch the remote like it was any other BD remote. Make sure that you have associated a button on your remote that allows it to synch with the PS3.

Ok, got my new PS3 Slim (my 60 gig died) - trying to set my info back up - I was told I could have "CYMBOL" on five different PS3s.

But, when I type in CYMBOL, it says I can not use that.

What do I have to do here?

Any help would be appreciated.

what do you mean?
your PSN ID?
are you trying to create an acct again?
all you have to do is log in using your username/email and password.

for a new ps3 it will ask you to make a new acct but there is a use existing acct option in the create new acct screen

You mean as a user for PS3 or when you are entering it for your PSN info ?

Ok - another dumb question - maybe it's my receiver where I have to do this, but I have optical and HDMI hooked up - HDMI is hooked up to my tv - got sound, everything is good.

Have sound through my optical - check. However, it isn't giving me the option for DTS HD, TRU HD, etc. - there is no "automatic" set up via optical like HDMI.

How do I get lossless through my optical.

Have a Onkyo 706.

You can't get lossless audio from optical cables (except in 2 channel PCM). For the full effect, you have to use your HDMI. Since you have a 706 this should be no problem.

Connect your PS3 to your 706 using HDMI cable, then your 706 to your TV using HDMI. Then set the output of your PS3 for both audio and video to HDMI. You'll also need to assign the ports on your receiver, follow the instructions in your manual.

What? I thought the new Slims could output lossless over Optical. I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

Figured it out - I needed to do "existing account" - not "new".

But now I can't figure out how to get lossless out of my optical.

I have a Onkyo 706 - anyone know how to get this set up?

optical will only do 2.1 PCM....

No. The change to PS3 Slim is that it can output lossless over HDMI as either PCM uncompressed or bitstream.

You can only get 2 channel lossless PCM over optical. None of the 5+ channel lossless modes will transport over optical, there's not enough standard bandwidth.

I figured out my confusion.

I remember reading the new PS3s could bitstream - I assumed they meant through the optical - not the HDMI.

I did set it to bitstream - it's nice to see the "DTS HD" come up now.

I tried to hook up my old 250 gig that I placed in an external case, but the PS3 (and computers) - none seem to recognize it. Not sure why.

Yeah if you want your receiver to show anything other than mutichannel PCM you have to set your PS3 to bitstream, which wasn't an option on the old PS3. Also, why are you using optical and HDMI?

Well, when I thought the optical would bitstream lossless, the idea was to have my HDMI straight to my tv - that way, I could have "small" sound directly from my tv (when playing at night) - and "big theater" sound when I wanted to watch a movie or play a game.

However, without the optical able to provide lossless, having both does me no good at all now.

Took me about a month to have my launch day 60Gb repaired under warranty.
(Because first I had to send it to my warranty company then they sent it back and paid for me to send it off yet again to Sony.)

Got the replacement 60Gb yesterday and it's very nice to be "back."

Called about de-activating my old unit and was told a third version of the story so I'm not happy about that. They said they can only deactivate once ever so I should wait till I get 4 more systems activated before I have them de-activate my old system which is being sent clearly to someone else at this point.

This wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't the third different scenario they have presented me with about this.

I'm pretty sure it will take me a long time to get up to 5 activated PS3's but I don't like having one of them off who knows where doing who knows what.
