For reason or reasons unknown, my 80GB PS3 no longer recognizes Blu-rays or DVDs. It still plays trailers I downloaded onto the hard drive. If anyone has a fix, I'd appreciate it!

The sad thing is, I had to pull out my Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD player in order to let my son watch DVDs!

Thumbs up

My ps3 has been acting weird lately. Everytime I play Rock Band, the game freezes always the first time I play it. Also, I rented Rock Band Beatles, and again, the first time it skipped during gameplay. After I reset the game, I have absolutely no problems. I have no problems with blu-rays only ps3 games.

I have a 40G ps3 and never had a problem before.

Should I be worried?

Hooking it up with HDMI cables and starting your PS3 by holding down the power button.

Sounds like you may be worried for good reason. If the freezing is occurring over multiple discs then thats definately a sign.

Default PS3 freezes up

been having trouble with my OG 60gb ps3 locking up during game play I first noticed this while playing Batman: AA but it has happened to infamous as well but not Uncharted 2 or Uncharted. I still get sound but the picture is frozen and the ps button doesn't respond niether do the power or eject button. I have to turn it off in the back and re-boot. It seems random sometimes it happens in like 15 min other times I've played for 2 hours and it doesn't happen.
I cleaned it out with a vacuum like the book says and the discs are spotless?

My launch 60gb got the YLOD of death last night. I was in the middle of a game of Ratchet and Clank and it just shut off. Won't restart. I don't have a backup, and now I can't make one. :: Had no warning either. Been running flawlessly until the "event" last night.

Unplug it and leave it for a day or so, you may be lucky and get a few hours more out of it to make a backup.

Thanks, tried, but no go. Tried that hair drier thing I read about to (the one where you don't open it)-- nada. Think I might take it to a local guy to fix so I can back it up at least. Sony gave me 50/50 odds and whether they would service it after such work had been done. I figure, backed up at least I can switch to a new one. Would suck to lose the 60s features, though.

Had a weird hiccup with my Slim just now. Turned it on to watch a movie, and my Bluetooth remote wouldn't work. Tried to use one of the controllers, and none of my 3 controllers would sync wirelessly--only if I plugged them in via USB.

I knew the batteries in the remote were new, so it wasn't that. So I tried to do a re-sync on the remote and it failed after about 60 seconds, with an error msg (forgot to write it down).

So I turned the Slim off, and back on again... everything worked!

Not sure what happened there. Has anyone else had this experience? I hope it isn't a sign of things to come, like a failing Bluetooth chip or something.

Default Success!!

Replaced my laser this morning and my PS3 is working perfectly now! Thanks for the guide, Mike! I got my laser from http://www.gadgetresurrection.com/ and everything went well. I shopped around and they had the best price I could find, plus they have an easy guide to make sure you're buying the correct laser for your machine (based on your serial number). Anyway, thanks again. If anyone needs me, I'll be playing Uncharted 2 for the rest of the day

Now when I turn it on, only the red light blinks then shuts down.

Well, thank goodness I ran a backup on my HD a few days ago.

yep, hopefully you get the same PS3 back, otherwise alot of saves/game data won't transfer over.

I think that I'm going to try to reflow it. I think what happened was that I allowed too much dust to accumulate inside of it and it most of clogged up the fan or something which caused it to overheat.

I got a heat gun thats 750 degrees at its minimum.

Quick question, what type surface did you guys have the motherboard on when you were performing the re-flow?

Since December 2006. I'd been vacuuming dust out, taking care of it, etc. Man, it was a shock. No warning, quick death. Very sad. I have learned my lesson-- backup regularly. Can't stress it enough to everyone else out there, especially if you've got a 60gb.
