Damn... well either hope my YLOD reflow lasts a long time or doesn't last long at all because I only want another 60GB back. I still have quite a few PS2 games and have been expanding into SACD. Most of all, though, I use the card readers and dont want to bother with an ugly external dongle.

Send it to JDElectronics! He's on eBay & he's damn good. I just received mine back from him. From the time I sent it to the time I got it back was 1 week! My 60GB is running like a champ again.

Only if you do the network transfer with both ps3s running at the same time. It moves copy protected saves to the new ps3. Otherwise, they're gone.

My PS3 is getting the blinking red light problem. It died on me in the middle of a MW2 game. I managed to get the game to eject and the system came back on. Tried testing it by playing Shooter only to have the console die in the middle of another game with the blinking light.
Right now I've powered everything down and am trying to overcome my sadness...don't expect problem to go away because it isn't overheating (had just turned on console for about 10 minutes in the morning when it happened). Own an original 60GB console with an upgraded hard drive. Of course, my Target 3 year warranty ran out a few weeks ago (coincidence?). Where do I go from here? Looking for comments from anyone who has had the same problem. ![]() |

Sorry to hear man. I have the 60gb model as well that I've owned since release day. Just after 2 years my laser stopped working and I had to pay $150 just so they can send me a re-furbished one. If I were you, I'd just buy the slim for $299, I wish the slim was released when my ps3 died but it wasn't out yet so I had to send mine in to Sony.

I had the same problem with my 60GB PS3 and it 1st happened when i was playing COD 4. I tried to get it fixed at a local shop but after several attempts, it kept doing the same thing so i gave up on it and just got a 120GB PS3 slim. I was reading up on this issue a few weeks ago and there were several people having the same issue with 60GB PS3 while playing MW2. Sorry to hear that it happened to you as well

Hey. Sorry to hear about you joining the YLOD club. Sadly, this is not going to go away unless you send it to Sony and hope they send you a decent refurb or you buy a Slim. The fix mentioned in the Tips, tricks, and fixes thread is only meant for a temporary fix to back up files and such. I have reflowed mine no less than 9 times since my 40GB did this maybe a year, year and a half ago. Money is tight so this is my only option right now. Personally, I would like to see Sony start sending Slims to those that have this problem and resort to the $150 fix. Doubt that will be anytime soon though, if ever...

My original 60GB PS3 died this morning...YLOD.
Ok...tons of pages to go through here, but I have been told there is a temp fix so that I can back up my hard-drive before I either send it to Sony or buy a new slim. Does this involve cracking open my system? My current desire would be to get my PS3 HD data (had a 320GB upgrade in it) backed-up, then buy a slim. I have a US PS3, but am living in the UK for the next 6 months...I can mail through an US APO address, but it will take a long time...hence the reason I want to go the slim route, then worry about fixing original once I'm back in US. |

If you open it, Sony won't touch it.
