A study published in April raised concerns that air conditioning could spread the coronavirus. The research, published in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Emerging Infectious Diseases journal, detailed an instance in which 10 restaurantgoers in China were sickened after eating at neighboring tables. The authors concluded that the virus was spread by the air conditioning system blowing tiny virus-laden droplets through the air.

Schaffner said this study may be an interesting outlier, but noted that there have been no further stories like this documented with the millions of infections worldwide.

Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease physician and a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, agreed.

“I haven't seen any strong evidence that we're seeing that this is transmitted in an airborne manner,” he said. “This is primarily spreading from droplets that go from one person directly to another person.”

While it’s theoretically possible that air conditioning can facilitate the spread of the virus, a lot of factors would have to align for that to happen, such as the timing of a cough or a gush of air at the right moment, Joseph Fair, a virologist and a NBC News contributor, said.

Spread through air conditioning isn’t a major factor in transmission, as the numbers don’t reflect that, he said.

“Ventilation and filtration provided by heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems can reduce the airborne concentration of SARS-CoV-2 and thus the risk of transmission through the air,” the statement said. “In general, disabling of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems is not a recommended measure to reduce the transmission of the virus.”

https://www.yahoo.com/news/does-air-...083102812.html
I think ventilation/air conditioning is fine, and a good idea actually - it exchanges old dead air with fresh air, reducing COVID-19 particles indoors. But I think just using fans isn't a great idea because it just circulates the air around the room - it doesn't exchange it with fresh air. Which is the concern with small establishments - lots of people filling up the air in places with poor ventilation/no windows and only fans means it will just spread the particles around.

There's still lots to learn about how this works and spreads.

Obviously a very poor idea. But. methanol is also absorbed through the skin and cause cause serious issues. So those methanol-containing hand sanitizers should still be taken off the market.

No, I was just annoyed at the confusion. I didn't mind signing in and waiting outside. That was my understanding of his posting. But the sign in sheets are to sign up for an appointment. It's no longer a first come first serve service anymore like it used to.

I understand he has to follow protocols. Just wish it was clearer...

Got this email from the city of San Rafael regarding a pause in some reopenings (mostly due to the outbreak in San Quentin, I would imagine).

Fortunately, what is opening up are what I'm most interesting is seeing open up.

Quote:
Dear business owner,

The County of Marin has decided to suspend many of the reopening guidelines for the June 29th reopening because of the recent spike in COVID-19 positive cases. According to the testing data on Marin Health and Human Services data and surveillance page, Marin County has seen a spike in cases, currently with 12 hospitalizations.

Industries still permitted to open June 29th :

Hair Salons / Barber Shops
Indoor Dining
Campgrounds and RV Parks
Picnic and Barbecue Areas

Industries postponed:

Gyms
Hotels and Motels
Short-term rentals (STR)
Personal Services (such as: nail salons, aestheticians, non-medical massage, piercings, tattoos)
Why the decision has been made

Gyms are considered higher risk environments for COVID-19 transmission, opening lodging creates a specific invitation to travel, and personal services creates prolonged, indoor face to face and direct physical contact.

It has not yet been determined as to when these reopening guidelines will be re-issued.

Additionally, a large outbreak at San Quentin State prison with more than 500 infected inmates in the past two weeks has created stress on local hospitals. Over 75 staff, some of whom live in Marin County, have also been infected.

Also, given the recent encouraging medical news regarding Dexamethasone, don’t take steroids without medical supervision, as there’s been no proven benefit with regards to prophylaxis against COVID-19, and more importantly - steroids do have side effects, plus, the necessity of tapering when going off them, etc.….https://www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...d-not-n1231316

Say you take all the proper precautions each and every single day, 24/7 for the last six months, you put your responsible efforts with dedication and understanding and with all your sweat and soul and pride; then one morning the UPS truck guy comes by and delivers a package from Amazon to your front door (a box of masks), and somehow you get infected with the virus and couple weeks later you die under the hospital ventilator. Bummer.

Today I watched few videos of people who got infected few months ago and got reinfected again, others who still suffer the aftershocks three months after.
You might have seen some of those short videos too, and the ones where people protest against wearing masks and all that stuff from the seven seas.

I need to disconnect from the fictive world and reconnect with the real world.
I watched less movies in summertime, and enjoy the outdoors, the nature, the forest, the wildlife, the rivers, lakes, ocean breeze. I enjoy peaceful quiet relaxing time, the eagles dancing gracefully in the blue sky above the ocean's surface. That's my escape from fiction to reality and it soothes me, it heals me.

Taking the grandkids to the zoo? That too. They like the rhinos best.

A good friend of mine had it mid-March.

He still can't smell.

And no doctor can give him an answer as to whether or not it will ever come back or why he lost it in the first place.

Forgot you were from Novato. Cruised through there first time today on my way to Clear Lake. A little dry and brown (right now) for my liking but it’s quite nice up there in that area.

I like that video of Dr. Fauci that Penton posted just above, couple hours ago.

* Almost 200,000 new cases today, globally. ...Record.

You can be American and make your own choice and still be considerate of your fellow Americans. But that's the problem - too many people over here apparently are mad that their "own choice" can't be "screw everyone but myself". Nobody likes wearing masks but many do it because it's the right thing to do currently. People shouldn't have to be told or ordered to do it. Human decency should make it easy to "make your own choice" to wear the mask.

It’s largely about people of certain way of thinking trying to force everyone to comply basically. This virus (like many other things currently ) is just being used to promote a certain way of thinking.

“If you don’t do what we say it is because you’re a bigot, selfish, lacking in empathy... etc...)

The language is almost always the same. “You care about what we say you should care about or you’re a terrible person”.

Not to mention that a huge chunk of the people that are most at risk are at an increased risk because they haven’t taken their own health seriously... Therefore developing a longer list Of underlying conditions. Having a society where people are not even being responsible for their own health is a problem.

My understanding of this was that you come in, sign in and then wait outside to be called.

Well I must be an idiot because that's not what that was at all. You have to sign in for an ADVANCED APPOINTMENT. There are time slots to sign your name (every 15 mins) and today he was filled up, so I signed up for an empty slot tomorrow. So I have to go back tomorrow!
So you have to enter a business you can't do business with at that time if they're full. How hard is it to have an appointment book like every other beauty salon on the planet?

You ring for an appointment then wait outside. Entering the premises to fill out your details is madness.

you know what they say, if you don’t have a proof pic to show, e.g. - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post14982129
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...p#post16844182

it never happened.

post a pic of you not watching movies and being outdoorsy on your island! If we can’t get back to B.C. in the near future due to the corona pandemic, at least I can live vicariously for a moment thru your Vancouver Island pic.
