COVID-19. And the way things are going now, wouldn’t be shocked to see it bumped again. This is one of the few big movies they aren’t gonna screw around with.

You won't get anything respectful and traditional from the movie industry in the current era (apart from a select few titles like Dunkirk and 1917). I'd be amazed if you could point out one movie that doesn't try to shoehorn some form of political propaganda.

Just look at the Pro China censorship they pulled on Tom's jacket. If they value the original or are simply decent human beings who care about human rights abuses, no one will touch this sequel with even a ten foot pole. I lost a bit of respect for Tom even allowing Tencent to be involved.

I guess you better go through your home and throw away the 99.99% of your stuff that was manufactured in China, too.

Doesn't Dunkirk remove multiple other armies from the movie?

Normally I would say the French troops were done a disservice by not being shown as a part of the effort, but I can understand Nolan wanting to focus on the British effort in particular. The German troops were not shown on purpose, in order to highlight the focus on the retreat/survival from an unseen (i.e U boats), mysterious (totally different culture and mannerisms) and intimidating foe.

If there are any other armies I missed, please refer back to my point of Nolan focusing on the British effort. It is a movie about survival against great odds, the human spirit. It still has that hint of political propaganda, but I respect it way more than 99% of films released these days.

There are many things I treasure that were made in China. Unfortunately, most, because I was not aware of the evils of China until recent years. The way I parse that, is that I do not know what political leanings the producers of the items had. If I knew concretely that the producers were participating in (or okay with) subjugation of people, I would throw away the item in an instant. As for new items, I do my best to always check where the item is produced, and to not buy from a Chinese location. There will be times where I make a mistake, miss something etc. but I can still try.

In the meantime, while you hand out glib responses, have you done anything to go against this evil regime yourself, or are you satisfied with simply attempting to criticize others' efforts?

Yeah I'm just here to enjoy a Top Gun movie. What is or isn't in the movie isn't my choice nor do I care. I'll judge the movie on its own merits for myself when I see it.

But then I'm just watching movies to escape reality for a while, not to stand up against some sort of evil Chinese regime ().

While people are throwing out their Chinese items, I'll probably be in my local cinema watching Top Gun: Maverick and tasting its splendours.

COVID and China aside, likely smell and subsequent production demands.

Confused? Here let me help you out. They have entire camps devoted to brainwashing, slave labor, and capital punishment of people whose views don't align with theirs. While you're sitting there with your yummy steak in hand like that reprehensible character from the Matrix, they are committing atrocities. You, by enjoying that media produced by and providing profit to them, are complicit and complacent if you knowingly do so.

Me on the other hand, I like to feel guilt free while I escape from the harsh realities of the world. It helps add to the enjoyment of the experience.

A vegan can try to convince me as best as they could for a lifetime that eating meat is bad. They could tell me that by eating meat I'm supporting a bad part of the world or that I'm part of a problem. I'm still going to eat a burger while they're trying to convince me.

The same way I and probably many other people are going to watch Top Gun: Maverick. I'm a movie lover (on a movie forum, no less!), so I'm going to watch a sequel to a great movie regardless.

If enjoying art and film is bad, then I'm guilty, and so is everyone else on this forum. Lock me up in a cell with a TV so I can watch Top Gun on VHS.

Well I am actually Chinese/Korean myself so I consider it at least moderately offensive when other people who are probably not Asian try to tell me what is and is not appropriate for me to do.

Never cared for the first Top Gun. I am a fan of Kosinski, so will definitely check this out in theaters.

Ooohhh well sorry we just want to be entertained. Here, you know what? I'll join you in my tank I just so happen to own for a day like this, which can mysteriously drive over the ocean, and we can fight China's enemy lines since you want us to take down China by simply not watching a movie.
