HD-DVD covers are even uglier than Blu-Ray covers. I'm glad these are off the market soon...

I just can't understand passing on a great BD that you would enjoy having in your collection just because you don't like the packaging. So what if the DVD packaging looks better on your shelf. It looks and sounds pretty bad in your player when compared to the Blu-Ray.

I put all of my DVDs in alternate, more space-effective cases anyway and put the original cases in storage. I will likely do the same eventually to my BDs, though I will probably leave really nice packaging like the Blade Runner set and the HP set on display. The discs, however, will be in one of my slim alternate multidisc cases.

Just because I do care about the films I cannot live with the - in my opinion - cheap looking packaging. Every Blu Ray so far pales compared with the Criterion discs or beautifully packaged Special Editions in my collection. I'm not talking about the artworks but primarily about the plastic slips and all the unnecessary logos on the covers which distract from the actual movie.

I'm also betting that in the future there WILL be different packages and no longer a single Blu Ray packaging. I just hope the companies will soon release appropriately packaged Special Editions with bonus features that surpass the DVD versions...

The only thing I don't like is when they use that super gooey glue on the security stickers and it leaves residue on the box. Have to pull the Gue Gone and rub it off. Thank God for that stuff.

In time the cases will change. DVD cases were cardboard when they first came out. After Blu ray is mainstream Im sure we will see more better looking unique cases coming out.

btw do we spend more time looking at the cases or watching the films in HD? A case wont be the deciding factor for me to get a move that’s for sure.

I like the cases just the way they are, and the fact the most of them are uniform and equal in size, makes it easy to organize. They look cool too!

But I second the other comments about gooey crap that gets stuck on the packaging, annoying, Goof Off works great, but I shouldn't have to do that all the time. Seems like Lionsgate are the worst offenders.

I doubt the blu-ray cases will change. The cardboard snapper cases were used only by Warner and Image Entertainment. Everyone else released their movies in the same style of case that is used now. Although, Disney experimented with the same style of case they used for thier VHS animated titles. I think they only released George of the Jungle in one of those white flimsy clamshell cases.

I really don't like buying movies or sets that are in huge boxes or shaped boxes that are different than most, they are harder to store with your other movies.

I think the bluray cases look much nicer than DVD cases. When I opened my PS3 and saw that slick bluray case with Spiderman i was alreay impressed.

so you are a collector of cases then? i mean the dvd cases look good in your opinion but the movies themselves look like crap. Bluray cases are ugly in your opinion but the movies look grat... yes you seem like a home theatre enthusiast.

Don't get me wrong - as written in my initial post, I love the sound and image quality of Blu Ray discs and will eventually sell all my DVDs and switch to Blu Ray.

But I'm just saying we as collectors should wait until the companies put more effort into packaging and special features.

In your initial post you said

It sounds as if your more concerned with Cover art then movies themselves from that stance. Which a lot of my BDs covers look pretty much the same as DVDs. Unless you talking about wanting slip covers, irregular packages and the like.

I agree that Logos are annoying when collecting, but since they have to let the uninformed know it's not the same as DVD, not much else to do I guess.

I personally like the uniform of most BD. I also personally hate WBs DVDs since I can't stand the tabs. But it's better then the cardboard cases they used to use.
