It's Guy Ritchie. It says "Sherlock Holmes" on it, but it's Guy Ritchie.
I just don’t know much about the production because so much of the work was done across the pond.
If the film turns the way Chelsea did after 10min., I will surely fall asleep when it debuts on Blu-ray.

I wasn't really TRYING to talk up the RedOne camera... heck, the only reason I even knew what it was, was from the discussion when you posted the .mov some time ago. PQ wise, I could name multiple shows FILMED that look just as good, if not better. I just got a chuckle out of the fact that those two shows which I specifically noted the PQ on, had been filmed with the RedOne given the older discussion.

BTW, I recommend "Leverage" (the Pilot of which is re-airing Wednesday, June 10th on TNT) which is a truly "fun" show... similar to "Ocean's Eleven" and "The Thomas Crown Affair".

Wow! I was not aware that "Smallville" was filmed with a PG... and probably would not have guessed given the series' PQ. I was under the assumption that it was filmed with some very "cheap" film stock.

Judging by the trailer, I think you can count on staying awake; you just may have a disgusted look on your face.

The conceptual approach to the material (from what the trailer tells me) is all the more disappointing considering the lovely production design.

If the content of the trailer is the sum total of 'that kind of stuff' in the movie, there's faint hope for it yet, but I think the odds are long. Screamingly misleading posters (Robocop, anyone?) are rare; screamingly misleading trailers are very rare.

Nobody's mentioned it's Robert Downey Jr. in the title role.

I'd doubt you'll be sleepy.

Default Help Needed Penton!

Air Force One:

Great video & audio transfer, however...

The subtitles for the Russian dialogue are missing!

They are there if you engage the normal English subtitles (subtitle track 1) but they don't appear as they should (theatrically and DVD).

Same thing happened with Lionsgate's Stargate, which was later fixed.

If you can please let the appropriate people know.

I just viewed this, and am aware of no problem. Subs appeared normally, and automatically below the 2.35:1 image. Another gorgeous Blu-ray from Sony BTW.

The subtitles appear only if they are selected, the "normal" subtitles for the entire film's dialogue like on other Blu-rays, but the Russian dialog is supposed to translated and shown by themselves.

They don't show up played back on either my PS3 or my Panasonic BD-30. At least on my copy.

Track 1: Normal English Subtitles
Track 2: English SDH
Track 3: French

There should be another track for the translated dialogue.

A quick check for folks is the beginning of chapter 4, the Russian shouts "They're landing!" as they run for the stairs. As he puts the C-4 on the door Oldman mutters "If we land we're finished" which is mistranslated in the standard subtitle track #1 as "They're landing" again.

Actually certain parts of the main subtitle track can be forced to be shown even if the main subtitles aren't turned on, which is what should have happened here.

I’m confused as there seems to be differing opinions as to what the problem is, if in fact there is a problem with the subs.

Once there is a consensus as to a ‘mistake’, will you or someone else please form a concise summary statement in one post (kinda like what the sticky sticker contributor did for me) and I will be happy to forward that to the person in charge of the AFO project.

OK (concise), the problem appears to be that the forced subtitles for the Russian dialogue isn't working.

The only way to see them is to manually engage the normal subtitle tracks that display everything, English included.

I tested this on a PlayStation 3 (2.76 firmware) and a Panasonic BD30 (2.8 firmware).
TV is a Sony XBR4 (HDMI 1.3a).
Playing in 1080p/24, also tested in 1080i/60 to make sure it wasn't some kind of sync problem.

My buddy Victor's been in LA for a decade...did well the first couple years with guest spots on ER, Chicago Hope, Ally McBeal, Alias, Six Feet Under, did a season of Passions, had a recurring role on The West Wing. Work's trickled off the past few years---part of his problem being that he's looked like he should playing 40 since he was 20 and he's only just aged into his type---but he's been able to get by on 3-4 gigs a year.

Anyway, with schedules rolling back and divisions downsizing he says the most frequently overheard conversation in town now is "Oh, so you used to act? Well, what are you doing now?"

(He's in an especially lousy mood right now---he recently read for Rob Reiner but was told he was the second choice to Abraham Benrubi for the role of Uncle David in the recently-announced Flipped.)

Thank the maker that's finally been announced.
Just because it will stop the week burst of questions about it.

Penton,

any news/results wrt Sony subs still being placed in the lower black bar instead of inside the picture area where they belong? You meant to contact Paidgeek about this problem which is quite annoying for folks with scope (CIH) setups as well as for the "zoomers" that like to eliminate all black bars on their HDTVs.

FWIW, only Sony and Warner Bros. still don't get it...
