Well, it opened with some cryptic comments with the speaker talking in riddles, which I found a bit surprising for a tech oriented retreat. Perhaps I’ll comment later as to the meaning of it all when I get more time. Anyway, ‘schmoozing’ with a colleague from over at Paramount revealed an unusual dog-related project; the gist of which I see has now made it onto the internet too – http://www.fandango.com/movieblog/pa...lm-699072.html

^ Quite bizarre if they can make it work; additionally, I had no idea that a talking dog YouTube was the second most viewed YouTube video of all last year!

As you’ve noted, not only was there a discussion of the SONY restoration of LoA at the retreat, which you’ve linked, but to all those *Blu-rays days are numbered worry-warts*, this archiving solution was on dissected display in the flesh–

However, on a OLED, i can imagine been tempted with certain films that have similar cinematography.

The question for you Doc, Penton Man and to forum members is, would the benefits of 4k shine through on restored classics that have been handled expertly. Or...
In a word, Yes.

As independent, non-biased observers have noted even “was the improvement we saw in 2K downconversions taken from fresh 4K scans—as viewed on a regular high-definition 2K flat-panel monitor akin to what any of us might have at home”,

See the paragraphs below the horseback riders here…http://www.hometheater.com/content/h...-4k-way-page-2

So, it’s not difficult to extrapolate and thusly realize that a 4K master (of a 35mm film) will look even better (more detailed) as viewed as a native 4K home deliverable source on a 4K display….”akin to what any of us might have at home.” Of course, YMMV, depending on the principal photography of the motion picture production, most notably the lenses and lighting, just like the gain in PQ is of any 1080p Blu-ray movies compared to their DVD counterparts.

As to OLED and other advanced display technologies, Steedeel, you actually hit on something which I recently posted. See –

You have no mercy, you sound like Doc.

Have a safe trip and watch out for panicked touristas on those drift dives. If you still haven’t purchased an underwater camera or housing, let’s at least see a surface shot or two when you get back home.

P.S.
shark, No pics of drunken divers mooning the photographer allowed!

Sorry, I thought that you, also like sharkshark were one of the folks who previously spoke to/about having seen the LoA trailers since the dawn of the Blu-ray launch and that the motion picture is long overdue.

Don’t worry about it. It’s all in good fun , on this thread at least, not to mention the fact that we Arsenal supporters have got to stick together in these challenging Champions League times , i.e. I missed the match (perhaps thankfully) but I read one of the post game analysis’s on the net.

I'm squarely in the 'take all the time you need' camp on LoA, which is not to say I won't camp out at the store the night before release.

Wednesday's shenanigans, on the other hand, I'm trying not to think about. Did you see the Sunderland game, though? I got a little misty at the end.

Day One, and already have a 71 and 66 minute dive under my belt (EAN33 and EAN36, respectively), with a close encounter with a reef shark, a swimming Morray eel slinking between two Barracuda, and a whole heap of sea turtles.

It's not super far from LA, highly recommend P giving Coz a shot again - this dive op (Aldora) seems completely up your alley. 5 divers plus DM on the boat, one of whom had a rebreather (crazy bastardo).

I viewed the first Sunderland match after a long day on the job and unfortunately fell asleep before the very end, which was past my bedtime. Next evening, fast forwarding the DVR to catch what I’d missed, the delayed viewing sort of lessened the impact of the late goal. Should have watched it all in at once…beginning to end, I guess. Tell me this, if we don’t finish in the top four of the Prem, how many millions of $$ will the ownership lose as revenue…which probably, ultimately will affect the team?

Well, you got it and the way things are going, we need an Arsenal support group.
B.T.W., why can’t you guys fill a stadium for a fifth round F.A. Cup match against a team in the top table of the Prem? On TV the place looked half-empty.

Sounds great.

Talking about exotic places and things, I remember another schmoozing tidbit from the Tech Retreat. While hanging out with the 4K folk, a colleague mentioned he/she had recently seen the 4K exhibition of the U.S. premier of Samsara (BIG format, film source) at the Santa Barbara Film Fest.

Did you see/review it at last year’s TIFF?

Penton Man, that is the FA Cup for you these days. The league game had something like 38,000 fans. We are normally very well supported considering we are not a top four team. However, the North East has been hit very hard with the recession and it is just too much money for some people. I am fortunate enough to have a season ticket but many simply cannot afford it. Having said that, Arsenal are not the huge draw they used to be.

By the way, Many don't realize Sunderland have won 6 league titles and two FA cups in their history. Very few teams have won the league that many times in England. We are proud of our traditions and our support is amongst the most loyal in the country. Plus we have the top man in charge now! Good old Martin!

My top 4 this year are
Man U
Man City
Tottenham
Chelesea

with Arsenal 5th. I do expect Arsenal to bounce back next year though.

Congrats, I guess. Your gang deserved the win in as much as mine did not. However, I must say that their rather cynical approach to both of these games did nothing to impress me beyond the evident ability to deal with our chump asses.

I wouldn't call it harsh to describe rampant hacking, throwing ten men behind the ball and the occasional flagrant dive as cynical*.

*which is not to paint Arsenal God's tender lambs, mind you

Come on Doc, football is a mans game, you know that. I did not see anything too bad tackle wise on saturday. In my opinion, that is part of Arsenal's problems. I feel they need to toughen up. As for the ten men thing, that formation was not exclusive to that match. We have played that way because of a shocking injury list. The simple fact is Arsenal, like many teams before them, could not cope with sessegnon. In my opinion, he is the in-form player in premier league at moment. As for diving? Well, no Arsenal player has ever dived, have they?

Diving in soccer? I'm shocked, truly shocked, that anyone would suggest such a thing
