Right, I do understand all of that...and I get what you're saying. It's not impacting my purchase one way or the other, I already grabbed this this morning. I just find it an interesting comparison personally. I'll check it out this evening.

I actually have less of a problem with foam than I do with paper or cardboard (something like the Avatar Extended Edition or the Indiana Jones boxed set). I don't think these are likely to get any damage this way, whereas the types of packages I mentioned above are tailor-made for scratches and scuffs over time.

Almost bought it. Nice, but not $25 nice. Picked up this Stranger Things raglan sweater instead.

My Target had about ~15 in stock, but that's plenty. I'm sure they even have more in the back. It was also weird seeing the racks completely empty, they are in the middle of moving stuff, but still.

Maybe physical releases are going out the door, but I'm glad I picked up Stranger Things. It's bigger than I imagined (certainly not VHS size), but it's a cool gift.

A bare-bones movie spread over two sides *regularly* sold for $39.99 when laserdisc was the only way to get a movie in widescreen. Hell, *actual* VHS copies of a single movie used to sell for $30 back in the day. My GOD, people are spoiled today.

I'm not looking down on anyone. I'm merely pointing out how FANTASTIC we have it these days on pricing, and I think a lot of people have lost historical perspective. $25 for 6½ hours of quality HD programming in lossless audio and great packaging is a pretty terrific deal. It just amazes me to see people griping about it when I recall how comparatively little we used to get for FAR more money. There's no arrogance inherent in my pointing all of this out.

He’s right. We are actually getting a lot more for a lot less these days.
I can remember shelling out ~$100 for VHS when it first hit shelves.

This release is a tremendous deal.

I mean, I'm surprised 4K dropped in price so quickly. Sure it still runs you $5 more than a blu-ray or DVD, but yeah, I remember my parents paying $30 for VHS tapes, hell, even for camcorders, it would cost $80-$100 for empty tapes for a box of 5 or so. It was insane!!! That's not counting inflation. That's why majority of the times we would use empty tapes to record shows and movies on TV. It was cheaper than buying the actual VHS tape.

Hell, nobody probably remembers Blu-Rays costing ~$40. The PS3 was groundbreaking because it was cheaper than buying an actual blu-ray player.

$25 is well worth it, Netflix could have really milked this series, especially being exclusive to Target, but for the VHS packaging, it's good.

Another thing to remember...that was $100 IN THE 80's, which was a hell of a lot more than $100 now. According to the inflation calculator, $100 in 1985 would be the equivalent of $227 today. For ONE movie. In SD. Pan and scan. Maybe even stereo sound if you were lucky. Can you even imagine?

Yeah, people today are spoiled. I'm not taking it back. lol

I wasn’t even going to mention inflation.
I’m hopeful this great pricing for day1 4k(even better if you wait a week or two) keeps going. It could give a much needed boost to home media.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but I put disc one into my player set to Region B, and got a region code error screen with a Region A logo. My guess is that both discs are locked to Region A, and I can confirm it in a bit, if necessary.

Also, people complaining about the size of the packaging must have never seen an older VHS or any adult videos, because the latter especially often came in huge boxes.

The packing is extremely nice. Very well put together. As for features, all 8 episodes in 1080p with Dolby TrueHD Audio, sounds feature rich to me.

Damn. Now that was clearly false advertizing on the concept art.

Not at all. Saying you were a bad person for it would be judgmental. Saying that the attitude toward price that you've articulated is why physical media is dying is simply a statement of fact. There's absolutely no judgment in that statement whatsoever.
