Can confirm that the second disc goes straight to the menu, no trailers of any kind.

Is this a common thing with the target website? Do you think it will still be in the store if I am there when they open this morning?

And if it remains a Target exclusive for a while this will become quite the collectors item. Target have obviously done a deal with Netflix what with all the merch and stuff so I think best to be safe and get it now.

Reatailers could eliminate some of this foolishness by implementing a 2 per person limit on exclusives. It would at least make it a bit harder for the scalpers.

I don't see how that could be enforced. You could just buy 2, then come back and buy 2 at a different line, or even the same line since the cashier probably won't notice or care. Online, such limits are more plausible, but even still, there are ways that scalpers circumvent this.

oh my god someone in my town is looking for "Barb Merch"

actually no, my Crystal Target didn't have any merch. In fact, they had taken down the entire movies and comics merch section and were in the process of redoing all of the pegs and shelves this morning.

Yeah this thing is stocked up big time. I'm expecting Black Friday sales or a sale around the end of the year regardless.

Things I know:
I’ve never experienced macro-blocking from a Blu-Ray/my media server.
I’ve never had a problem viewing content when my ISP went down.
I’ve never had an issue viewing Blu-Ray/ My media server content when a license period expired for Netflix.
Viewing content at 1080 vs. 4K is practically indiscernible at the distance I sit from my 65” VT50.
I like uncompressed audio roaring through my Klipsch speakers.
I stream for convenience but buy for quality.
Stranger Things is the best thing I’ve seen this year.

My store had about 12 copies on the shelf, probably have more in the back to put out when they need them.

I appreciate the idea but I like it even less in person than I thought, it's so bulky just for the sake of it and longer than a VHS tape is so it's not like they're doing it so huge to be realistic. I'm glad they don't have these in cardboard slots, but these rubber things are dumb. I moved my BD discs to the 'top' one on each part so I don't have to take disc 1 out to put disc 2 back... and it's not like these junk DVDs will ever be used. I got it though, who knows if a normal release will happen, seems like they should have released them at the same time if they were planning on doing a normal one too.

I'd have rather them had it in a BD case like Criterion or hell, even a DVD case, so the artwork would fill the whole case... and had a slipcover that looks like the outer box with the VHS logo and stuff and then have the wraparound artwork for the amaray be the actual VHS.

What's funny is that is my close by location! but I went to Plymouth because it is a Super Target and thought maybe just maybe if they had the merchandise they might have more of it.

and I couldn't find anything!

I'd think they would sit up a section of nothing but stranger things items.

6:30am, and I was in no way "freaking out". I was just confused as to how the web site could say "out of stock" when the stores weren't yet open on street date. I thought - and continue to think - that was extremely odd. I'd planned from the beginning to check inventory anyway, and as suspected, the site was incorrect.

Discs are wider than a real VHS tape, so to keep the correct proportions of a VHS tape once they decided on the design idea, they had to make the package large enough to hold the discs. Since the discs overlap and since the discs just barely fit width-wise, they made the package only as large as it had to be in order to have a proportionally-correct VHS design that the discs would fit into.

Yep or they could go to another location, or bring a couple friends and have them buy them in a separate transaction, etc. But, it would at least show that the retailer cared about preserving stock for individual customers who just want one copy for themselves. It wouldn't eliminate scalpers, but it would at least greatly discourage them.

Store by Yankee Stadium had at least 50. A bunch by the registers & a bunch in the back.

All the more reason to ditch this idea and do one like the slipcover/artwork in a normal case then

I guess I have no complaints about it myself - I think it's absolutely fantastic and what's even more amazing (given the state of the Blu-ray market today) is that someone actually cared enough to try to make this a special retro-styled release - Netflix and Target deserve a lot of credit for that.

(Incidentally, being oversized means it has to go on the prominent top shelf of a display rack, because it probably doesn't fit on the lower regular Blu-ray case-sized shelves!)

I've always liked good collector's editions and while of course I can always think of improvements (for example, I don't really have much interest in posters, especially random artwork ones instead of the main "poster" image, and especially folded ones), I'm very happy with the package overall. I really do love the outer "VHS" sleeve.

I can of course understand people wanting a normal-sized case. It's definitely reasonably priced - you're not really paying a premium for the cool packaging and the poster - so anyone who doesn't like it can just put it into a regular case and throw away the packaging, and the rest of us can enjoy it

I'm sure someone over here will be doing something like what you're wanting.

That's what I thought. I still have a late model VCR in which you can "skip" forward a predetermined time frame that allows you to circumvent "previews" to an extent. That was a fancy feature at the time.
