Mine was overnight, too. First time that's ever happened for me.

Gotcha.

Netflix 4K shows more compression artifacts and has some related coloration issues at times when compared to the Blu-ray. I posted a couple of screenshots here - on a darker monitor, you probably won't be able to see the difference. On a brighter screen, the flaws will stand out:

You can definitely see the color issues...like the purple blobs on the door in the second shot. Question, though...wouldn't upscaling the Blu-ray screenshots to 4K make more sense for a true comparison?

I guess so, if you wanted to compare fine detail. But then you might have to get into more discussion re: how different players handle upscaling. I suppose I could have not bothered downscaling the 4K, which would allow people to handle that however they want, although the 4K image would be much larger in terms of file size to load on the webpage.

I think this makes it clear enough though that upon just a general visual comparison, the Blu-ray may provide a better visual. I did flip through a bit until I found an obvious flaw - generally, the 4K does look pretty good, although as a stream (some suggest that Netflix's 4K streams are only 15mbps), it doesn't approach the quality one would expect from a UHD release.

Mine just shipped from them. Sometimes orders take a few days to ship. I've only ever had good experiences with BFE.

Well, obviously a UHD release would look much better than any stream. But the purpose of this particular comparison is to see if a 4K stream looks better than a pristine Blu-ray with a maxed out bitrate.

I see a bit more detail in the skintone on the Blu-Ray. So there we have it true 1080p Blu-Ray is even better looking than 4K streaming.

He needs to make the Blu-ray an upscale to 4k for a correct comparison of fine detail.

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion without seeing them both at 4K resolution. You're essentially shortchanging the only real benefit the 4K might have to offer by downscaling it in the first place. Upscaling the blu to 4K res doesn't diminish its detail in the same way, and is the only fair way to judge the two side by side.

Perhaps with Season two things will be different.
It was a great aspect of the show, but if you've ever seen an interview with all the kids together, you'd see why it would be a commentary I'd never listen to.

Thanks guys, yeah mine has now just shipped to the UK also. I take my hat off to the guy who runs the site if he does it all by himself

At my local Target they have all the copies in spider wrap in the dedicated movie section. However, up at the front of the store where the cashiers are at none of the copies are spider wrapped. Just a tip for next time.

I have updated the screenshots so now the Netflix 4K Stream images are NOT downscaled. But I won't upscale the Blu-ray shots, because I leave that to you to upscale by the method you want. Different players upscale in different ways and I'm not going to try to emulate that.

Just finished the series. Unfortunately, I found it very underwhelming, given the supposed hype. At least Mrs. Wheeler was hot as hell, though. At that age, I'd be going to Michael's house every day, to cozy up to mommy.

The Blu-ray quality was great throughout, with only a hint of compression artifacts in one or two darker shots. I also really love the packaging, and how the got the look and feel of a VHS release spot on.

Going by these screenshots the blu-ray is definitely better than the 4K. In image 1 you can see some macroblocking on the typewriter near the black knob on the 4K stream that is not present on the blu-ray, and in that case detail is better resolved in that area.

I actually noticed a lot of macroblocking in dark scenes on the 4K stream which hopefully will not be present on the blu-rays overall (like in that screenshot). The fact that you also get uncompressed sound makes this worth it.

I just now got back from a two-day work conference, and I was happy to find that my Target was full of these sets. This Stranger Things: Season 1 box is the most beautiful Blu-ray package that I've ever seen, and I'm normally not a packaging/swag person.

My intention with the above was to precisely mirror the back portion of the retail packaging. I've actually worked up a few different versions of the above. Well, slightly different back portions. The front portion and spine are the same for each. Another preview image below.

[Show spoiler]

For this version I managed to call out most of the specifications for the release. Close enough for government work anyway. In any event, I will be posting download links to the full size images (3173x1762) suitable for printing later today for those interested. Not able to connect to my FTP at the moment otherwise I'd upload the full size images now and link the preview images to them. :-P
Awesome! I will use this for putting my BDs inside a standard case & just display the VHS packaging with the dvds inside. Thanks. I'm just waiting for the link
