Either way it doesn't reflect well on Netflix. Any leaning I might have one way or the other on that would still equate to me talking out my rear end, because I just don't know. I could make reasoned arguments for either case, doesn't make either of them true. And as I said in an earlier post, as deplorable as I find forced trailers and such, what matters most is the opportunity to own the given title on Blu-ray. If I had the choice of no release on Blu-ray or a Blu-ray release with forced trailers I'd take the Blu-ray release with forced trailers every time. I'd just hope that Netflix in this case takes customer's feedback to heart and both offers future seasons of this TV show on Blu-ray and without the forced trailers as they did with this release.

Default Stranger Things: Season 1 (2016) (Target Exclusive)

So yes, I’m this much of a nerd. I’m watching 1 ep a night until season 2 and I actually timed the difference between waiting through the unskippable trailers and using the disc 2 workaround method and the time difference is substantial:

Disc 1 w/ trailers: 6:02.41
Disc 2 w/ disc swap: 1:06.67

That’s the time between initially inserting the disc and the runtime of the chosen episode appearing on my player.

In any case, it’s a far cry from this ridiculous statement:

I try to support discs, but it is situations like this that really drive home the point that streaming is a better experience.

The BluRay Disc Association could help discs compete with streaming by ending the requirement that BluRay players must honor all authoring choices, even ones that make disc watching an unpleasant experience. But they're out to lunch. They won't revisit the format or its rules.
As much as I detest forced trailers I'd take a title on Blu-ray with forced trailers every day of the week and twice on Sunday rather than have streaming be my only option. Netflix surely knows this. After all, they mail DVD's and Blu-ray's out to customers 24/7/365. I've been a disc rental customer since day one and have never let my monthly subscription lapse in all these years. I can't say the same for their streaming service which I go for very long periods of time not subscribing to. If Netflix is trying to make people hate discs they have a funny way of showing it.

My point is, Netflix makes money on both fronts. They always have. They can clearly walk and chew gum at the same time. Their disc rental service hasn't skipped a beat in all these years and offers a much wider selection than their streaming service does not to mention the bonus features you'll get on the discs which aren't part of the streaming model. Netflix also knows that their customers can walk and chew gum at the same time and choose to. Many subscribe to both their disc rental and streaming services in addition to purchasing DVD's and Blu-ray's still, DVD's and Blu-ray's in many cases that are available to stream and may have already been streamed. Honestly, this whole physical media versus streaming thing is getting a little stale don't you think.

You're in luck. I purchased a few on Tuesday. I have an extra one left. I was going to keep it unopened as a keepsake. It's in perfect condition.

Tell you what. It's yours

I'll even throw in free shipping!

I love this show so much. I just finished watching it all the way through for the first time (saw bits and pieces, some clips here and there), and it was great. I loved everything about it. The worn 80s rental-looking VHS and the 1980s setting the show itself is in makes this one of my new favorite shows ever and one of my top favorite blu-ray releases. I can't say enough good things about it; it's like if you were to take the best aspects of Alien, The Thing, The Goonies, and the best of the best of 1980's horror, science fiction, and family/adventure films Bring on season 2, the comic con trailer set to the music of Thriller and the Vincent Price narration has me all kinds of hyped up

I really love the packaging and Im surprised at how sturdy it actually is, but as with many releases Ive had trouble with this year... the way the discs are stored is absolute crap.

Foam hubs. The second disc laying on a piece of cardboard. I had to make an exchange, and Im surprised I only had to do this once. Even then, the second disc had a weird film on it, so I spent some time carefully wiping it away with a microfiber cloth.

Anyone who has issues playing disc 2 may want to look under a light and see if this might be their issue.

All of you guys complaining about not being able to skip the beginning trailers is really weird to me. For as long as I've bought anime, specifically Funimation has ALWAYS done a trailer at the beginning of each disc that you can't skip. It annoyed me but it was never enough for me to go and freak out (literally) like some of you are doing.

I quit buying anime aside from re-releases of certain shows and Pokemon but I bought D. Gray-man Season 3 Part 1 last week and it still had a trailer that I couldn't skip. Clearly nothing changed.

Damn tried to go to Target to try to buy this & nothing, not even a display, must be sold out. Oh well guess I wasn’t meant to own this.

I could always skip funi trailers on both Blu-ray and DVD by hitting the 'top menu' button. But yeah, it's such a small issue I really don't know what the deal is. The bigger deal is that both trailers have music replacements (while the show itself keeps all of it's original licensed songs, that confused me, if you already kept the show's song rights might as well keep the trailer's too), that's a thing that annoyed me a bit (I wanted to hear the Stranger Things remix of Thriller on pure Blu-ray sound damn it).

ps the forced trailer thing is obnoxious but it fits with the VHS theme. If it wasn't spoilers I'd be more forgiving, thanks To you guys I got a heads up, what about the average joe who doesn't frequent BD.COM.
I felt not having a pretty looking cast made the characters felt more realistic. Plus they were all great actors so that helps too.

I don't see anyone freaking out. How do you know people are "literally" freaking out? You're taking that leap all on your own. It's actually possible to be strongly vocal about something you don't care for and not be freaking out. So you can't relate. Well that's cool. Wouldn't it be refreshing though for someone to simply post that they can't relate and explain why without at the same time painting those who feel differently as being unhinged.

In the sense that streaming won, sure. But as someone who appreciates discs, I think it is more important than ever that we express our suggestions for how to have discs be competitive for at least a little while longer.

Myself, I have some patience. I will get a disc going, and get to the first frame and press pause before my significant other comes down to the tv room. Would she have the patience to waste 5 minutes of her day on that? Heck no! Nor do most people, as the physical media vs streaming thing has proven.

I hope some studios are listening to our feedback, because it is valuable.

One thing I find funny is that you get a viewer discretion warning at the start. Has there ever been a home media release where there's a viewer warning on the actual disc. Especially for a show that isn't TV-MA.

But seriously - studios should hire fans / home video enthusiasts. Any number of mistakes, problems, restoration goofs (X-Files) could have been avoided if they had just hired a fan to work with them on a release.

What's wrong with X-files? Please don't tell me you're talking about the widescreen (for a show that was actually made to be widescreen safe).

"Strongly vocal", call it whatever you want then because it seems like freaking out as far as I can tell. Making a mountain out of a molehill, better?
