I think it will always be tough to have perfect compression without filtering on a 66.

Mostly likely it is, possibly just to include the newly authored anniversary BD? And there's me pining for a new encode but the irony is that Sony's compression has taken a downward turn of late so it'd probably end up being just as variable as the current disc, if not worse.

rewatched this on my new 82Q90R (rest in peace old TV).
what a difference the processing chip makes. on my previous tvs, the grain was very bad. but on this larger TV with newly improved chip, there's alot less grain and more detail to boot. just goes to show different opinions can really be impacted by the display they are watching on. I was expecting worse grain going to a larger TV but Samsungs new chip really does a nice job. |

The same Samsung that had forced noise reduction baked in on its BD players? I'm happy that you're happy ray but I'd trust Samsung's image processing as far as I could throw it.

ha. cute. Their BD division and tv division are completely seperate and do not use the same tech/chips. Vincent Teoh himself extensively tested the 2019 Qleds and says the processing is now super close to Sony's X1U chip. texture and detail greatly improved while not being overly grainy. I have an LG C8 oled also and those are known to be on the grainy side and even at 55" is very visible at my house on anything less than 4k. funny thing is that at alot of the shootouts over the past few years (USA and UK), the only area where Samsung did well was upscaling, actually coming in 1st place many times. (2018 USA shootout being the most recent) |

I had both sets and although there are pros and cons for both, I found that the air upscaling on the q90r beat the z9d by a nose. I found that the little bit of motion blur on my z9d got in the way of the sharpness whereas on the q90r it was more consistently sharp in lesser than 4k material.

That blur has nothing to do with upscaling though, the response time in the panels used for the ZD9 isn't the greatest, although the 75" is said to be much better than the 65". Samsungs have always favoured a sharper image on their upscaling than competitors but sharper doesn't mean more accurate. Eh, ray doesn't even like black bars on his TVs so have at it, sir.

I don't trust Samsung players, period. After their BD player fiasco across their first 5 models several years ago I vowed to keep away.

Seems the 4k has more grain than the remastered blu. At least it seemed as if it had more.
