Same here. I want the extras, but I am not paying all of that for a cheap oversized cardboard box.

I believe the blu-ray set with both movies has the Mi4K transfer but different encode of the first movie and the 4K set has that same disc.
Do you mean that the 4K set has the Mi4K disc?

BB now has the photo on the pre-order listing, individual black cases. Hope that's accurate!

There are individual cases. I think the question is whether they are regular cases with slipcovers , or some sort of digipack.

It's the same transfer done way back when, but the encode won't be as robust due to sharing space with special features.

Rumours going around that the 4K gift set doesn't include the lights inside the box like the US release?

I hope it's just a fake rumors, I would be disappointed. What's the point to not include the lights in a set which is identical both the US and EU?

Best Buy now has the 4K set listed as “COMING SOON”. So hopefully it comes back for those that didn’t preorder. Will this be hard to get like the Ghostbusters 1&2 4k Steelbook ? I preordered my set already but was just curious

This is not inherently true, no. Plenty of discs look great that share space with special features. Sony has been pretty on the ball with these DV reissues, better encoding and all.

That’s the difference for the new 4K films aside from DV right - bigger discs and better encodes?

Yes and with Dolby vision the bright scenes are going to be better balanced meaning it’s not overblown like the original. meaning it’s going to look the way it should have with the original uhd but the regular hdr couldn’t pull off as well.

We were specifically addressing the original 'Mastered in 4K' 1080p blu-ray that was released in 2013. It remains the best 1080p rendition of the film.
The 2014 two title set uses the same transfer but the encode is smaller in order to accommodate the included extras on the same disc.

Larger well authored encodes will result in greater accuracy and transparency to the original source, within the capacities of the format. A more subtle benefit that many often overlook and under appreciate when comparing a more robust encode with a more lean one is less reliance on temporal reconstruction of each frame; which means more real original visual information rather than partial frames that require more reconstitution.

The encodes of the primary HDR streams could potentially be improved upon in addition to the DV layers. Time will tell.

If the underlying HDR10 remains the same as the first 4K release then watching it without DV will result in the same picture as before but with DV on a DV display it should tone map better those highlights. Although that does not address or change the increased average picture levels.

I sold "Answer the Call" but the 3 pack came with all 3 movies with slipcases and I think I paid under $30 USD.

Edit: Not my feet or picture. Only Google pic I could find...

Yes, of that I'm aware. Size and bitrate aren't everything though; I was addressing the idea that sharing a disc with extras means a movie will look worse. That's not necessarily true. More room to breathe is always good though. There are horrible encodes out there on discs dedicated solely to a feature.

Whenever I watch Ghostbusters on my Blu-Ray player I use the MI4K disc, otherwise the previous UHD release is for the downstairs theater.

Yeah I find its best to preorder these sets as soon as they go up at Best Buy, they seem to sell out quickly and its hot or miss if they accept anymore preorders after they stop taking them the 1st time.

I find it’s coincidental since Best Buy finally put a pic on the listing, it sold out shortly lol. Maybe people wasn’t sure it was the ghost trap 4K set but wanted to make sure or something.

I’m glad I preordered before they put a pic on the listing.

Includes the original cinema audio in lossless too compared to the previous release. So, GHOSTBUSTERS 1 & 2 = BD100, DV, better encode, and lossless original cinema audio tracks.
Hoping many other earlier Sony 4K UHD releases will be released again with the above parameters. Especially
[Show spoiler]The Dark Crystal since this year is the 40th Anniversary. Maybe same packaging too a newer bonus features i.e. LABYRINTH 35th Anniversary 4K UHD too. Would be VERY nice!
