I am sure l missed this some where, but to confirm, does the reprint SteelBook have the DV version of GB1?

If it's the same version as the first release, then there's no reason to buy the reprint, right?

Apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered a bunch of times ---

This has been answered multiple times. This is simply a reprint and doesn’t contain the DV discs.

I appreciate the help. I know it's a pain in the butt to answer the same questions over and over; even after reading back several pages, l still had no idea.

The only place on Earth you can get the DV discs is in the Ultimate set

For now but this year is the 40th anniversary so I expect Sony to do something.

Is that so? Good to know. Will probably still watch the 4K's with Atmos in this case.

I think this edition does, but it appears the discs are in cardboard sleeves, the bane of disc surfaces.

That was my immediate thought when I saw the listing haha. Signed, man who just bought the steelbook reprint and only now realized it doesn’t have the DV discs.

That looks like an Amazon Japan exclusive version of the Ultimate set with worse packaging. I can't find hard specs but possibly missing the 2.0 English according to the listing here. Would be hilarious if it actually had fixed 2.0 and nobody realized it yet. Seems like it has three BD-100 instead of that lone BD-66 on the US set. I didn't realize that one had DV but seems to defeat the purpose of not getting the US set since that costs even more imported

Oh yeah, totally agree. Was just researching options, but I feel that we’ll get a new collection or reprint when Frozen Empire hits disc.

Here's the basic Japanese set with DV discs. (The other one linked is the Amazon JP exclusive with a bonus vinyl single) It's only $58 right now BUT Amazon has it locked for US buyers unfortunately. Gotta use a shipper like Zenmarket to get one. After fees it should still be well under $100.

This link does not work at all for me, sorry to say.

EDIT: Found it. Not really worth it IMO.

Thoughts on the complaints that there is “too much grain” on this transfer?

It was shot on grainy 35mm, how would you expect it or want it to look?

It's filmic. High speed negatives have more grain. The movie looks exactly as it should.

I do think these early Sony 4K masters were so light blasted, that the grain ends up feeling artificially boosted and the end result isn't the most filmlike.
