What a joke, nobody has even posted how the new Dolby Vision upgrade looks compared to HDR10.
Just a bunch of people whining about their package not arriving and how the slipcovers look.. smh |

I only ordered one and mine came in a similar, if not the same, size box and they used air pillows. I wonder if they didn't have enough room in that box for air pillows.

Have to have the 5-6 days of shipping updates (no one cares when its on its way to you or if it was delayed). Add on the psychos writing paragraphs about Amazon sending them one with a tiny crease in the corner that they have to return. Oh and for good measure all the complaints about “scratched” discs. You know, the important stuff! By March we should get some actual A/V discussion. Maybe.

We'll wait for you to provide us with the HDR10 to Dolby Vision comparison, but don't make us wait too long.

I checked out a couple of the Dana auditions - the auditions are OVER AN HOUR. It's interesting, but it's a lot. I suspect most won't get through the whole thing. I watched most of Denise Crosby and Kelly McGillis and it's not just one audition. They present them running the same lines over multiple call backs as well. I went to Afterlife and liked it more than when I saw it in the theater. My first impression was that I loved the first half and my enjoyment went down as the fan service ramped up in the second half. While some of what I complained about was not as bad as I thought, I did still think some of my other issues remain.... I just didn't care as much. It could be because the presentation was so great. This has a demo-worthy Atmos track. May be one of the best I can recall. |

Is it weird that the thing that took me most OUT of the film was the old cast? It was just so odd given the age difference. I was actually very engaged by the contemporary story and just didn’t think it was necessary by the time I got to the end of the film. It almost made it feel like one of those too-self-aware promotional commercials all of a sudden instead of the end of the movie I’d been watching for 100 minutes. Also…wouldn’t the last versions of their GB uniforms have had the GBII logos on them? I also didn’t like that the actress who portrayed Gozer looked so little like the original actress. Everything else was so spot-on that that kind of stuck out to me.

Don't take this as gospel haha but here's a quick screen cap (just from my phone on looking on my 4k projector of this release, previous 4k and regular blu ray. Just to kinda give a taste maybe of what the comparison looks like. Grain is in tact, detail is great! Atmos is sounding hefty with the first proton pack scenes I'm watching now!

I've only been through a bit of it so far. I'm not DV/HDR expert so I'm not the person you want comparing the two. I ran straight to the preview cut. As was mentioned above, it's rough - rough sound effects, no music, many scenes with pending VFX are black and white. It's 4:3 with letter box in the middle - like an old non-anamorphic DVD but in VHS quality. So, yeah, rough. Cool to see alternate takes/lines and extra footage. A lot scenes bookend with different lines ("undersea sponge migration" is now back the script lines about the rock fall, there's more reference to the Board of Regents meeting, etc.).
The TV edit of the GB1 is 4:3. SD but pretty well cleaned up (not VHS-y). Still the aspect ratio is hard to tolerate. I remember them using the elevator scene as an example of why letterboxed movies were better than pan & scan when letterboxed movies first came out - still feels claustrophobic. Atmos on Afterlife is as mentioned above - reference. Just awesome all the way through. Have not watched any GB2 material yet (was outta town, have kids, gonna be a while - you'll all see it before me. Packaging on mine was in great shape (I'm sure everyone's relieved to know that) and the lighting looks great for now (Best Buy preorder). Quick question for anyone who has also received it - I'm imagining the digital codes for the first 2 movies don't somehow magically unlock any new extras, right? I have the digital versions of those two and don't see the need to re-redeem unless somehow there's a benefit (can't imagine there would be). |
