How much of that is due to damaged items? I'm betting a lot of it. Plus the cost of shipping out a new one, plus the cost of them eating the shipping costs too. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just use a box and 25 cents worth of padding? Heck, I'll pay $1 more per order for a box - just give me the option.

I just shipped something out today as an Ebay seller, and it's insured at over $500. I packed it well because not only do I not want to deal with a hassle if they get it damaged, but because I actually want the recipient to enjoy what they bought, and have it arrive in great condition for them, because I appreciate it when I receive items well-packaged.

Amazon just doesn't care.
My guess is they’ve done the math. Likely the percentage of people that return due to damaged packaging is low. Speed is likely more valuable and the time it takes to pack something more securely has been sacrificed.

Got the shipment notification from Amazon! Set for delivery on Wednesday instead of tomorrow. Which actually works out better because I’m usually out late on Tuesdays but leave work extra early on Wednesdays.

If you actually look on eBay and see what these have already sold for its crazy. One today sold for $205 shipped and others in the $190 range not including shipping

Now there’s one on eBay selling for $425. Surprisingly Barnes n Noble is still taking pre orders, but I imagine it’ll be sold out before long

Yea nah, the person in question is asking $425 for it. That's double what everyone else is asking for and what they've actually sold at so far. That dude is gonna be waiting awhile when there's plenty of copies half that and not to mention whatever else ends up back on shelves at MSRP.

Got my set today. All of these pics and talk of packaging had me really worried. Bull Moose did an amazing job packing up the set with bubble wrap and air pillows. Arrived nice and secure in the right size box.

Afterlife was a bonus (and blind buy). Not too happy with the 4K disc (or is it my player) as it kept stopping all around the middle of the 15th chapter. After starting and stopping five times I just finished the movie with the Blu-ray.

Well, I typed too soon. Zia Records order is being prepared for shipping. Thanks to the person who mentioned the code sheet has the individual codes, much easier to sell those that way instead of one code for multiple movies.

I got about 20 of those sets for my customers and sold them out quickly weeks ago and tried going into my distributor website to get more and lo and behold you can’t even buy them anymore. Contacted my rep and he said he contacted the buyer and reason it was pulled is because Sony no longer makes or sells this SKU and it was just limited time.

I'm sure that this particular edition (with the collectibles) is as limited as it gets, once is gone, the only way to get it will be via Ebay and such.

The new Dolby Vision + original sound encode, my gut tells me will be available sooner or later, I don't think Sony bothered with a new movie encode only to let it die in a very limited edition.

The brand new extras however, well that's the real gamble. Who knows when or if they will be available. The only thing that's for sure, it won't be very soon. Maybe in 2024 for an anniversary edition?

Didn't the last steelbook set quickly go OOP in the U.S., too?

Yep, and those extras were exclusive to that edition for a while, too.

My BB shipment survived the Blizzard of '22, delivered about 9:30 this morning!
Got the "cardboard box with airbags but still loosely packed" treatment, but no visible damage to the exterior of the ghost trap. Unfortunately, there is a little crushing of the cardboard on the inside, near the top of the box, but you can't tell when the box is closed. No way is it bad enough to seek a refund or exchange. The lights work, and I must confess to emitting a slight squeal of delight when they illuminated upon removal of the contents.

The exclusive slipcovers are super-sweet! I like the quality of the printed book, but boy do I need a magnifying glass! Can't wait to start digging into this set, but I wish my wife would leave me alone long enough to do so!

Hope everybody else gets their sets delivered in good condition. Physical Media Collectors Must Unite!

Well dam.. I only bought two to get better packaging for the shipping, and then I was gonna return one of them. Maybe I should just sell my second copy if it's getting $150+?

One did just sell for $300. Have to wonder why people just don't preorder if they want it that badly.
