It's entirely possible you watched it on PPV but it wasn't on HBO.

Dude I got all kinds of evidence. I have been an HBO junkie forever. What you don't know about the subscription service I could just about squeeze into the grand canyon.

See? You actually CAN post evidence when you want to!

I had never heard of that. Interesting -- especially because it wasn't listed. Very cool info!

Did you really just brag about your HBO knowledge?!?

Do you lead with that at the bars or do you wait until they've had a few to reel them in?

And heck yeah I brag about HBO. My favorite cable network by far. Was watching it when you were a tyke.

As shown in the link slimjean posted, HBO only scheduled “HBO Christmas Present” in listings, nobody knew it would be Ghostbusters. There was another slot under that name a day or two later, but of course, it wasn’t Ghostbusters.

I also remember CNN Headline News (before it became just HLN) had a bit about this surprise showing of Ghostbusters in their entertainment report (repeated hourly) either Christmas or the day after.

All I can think about is the TV Guide nerd from Seinfeld:

Except you told him he didn't watch it on HBO only PPV. So no you weren't right you just found a random online pic without knowing the facts.

Heck yes. I love those old HBO guides. They got me so excited especially with the back page teasers!

HBO in the 80's especially was the greatest time. So many wonderful films.

The copy of Ghostbusters that I grew up with was actually a home taped one from HBO. I couldn't tell you when it was recorded specifically but I watched the crap out of that thing from the early to mid 90s. It was most likely recorded at my grandmothers house in the late 80s, early 90s and opened with the epic "HBO in Space" intro. My copy of Ghostbusters 2 was also taped from TV but I think it was some edited network broadcast. I didn't watch that one nearly as much.

And here's the PPV commercial from 1985. So...

GB2 looked and sounded great!

Didn't, at one point, Slimer come flying out past the Statues of Liberty?

Anyone else notice, or is it just my set-up, the black crush or softness in the first movie?

I saw Big Trouble in Little China on PPV. PPV was actually around long before 1980 if you look up the history of it.

I saw GB2 theatrically several times and never saw Slimer come from Liberty. Second time I saw it the power went out in the theater during a storm that it burned the theatrical experience in my mind. I have heard that plenty of times and of course the picture of a storyboard in the last post, but no proof of any kind if it was actually in it or even had the effect done.

My set arrived today (Canadian version), with all of the proper discs. Afterlife also had a slipcover. All slips inside have some form of wear however, but I'm cool with it I guess. Only popped in Special Features Disc 1 so far and that thing has around 10 hrs of content, plus commentary. Wild!
